Iv posted on mumsnet about my cat in the past. She can be a complete nightmare. She pukes in my shoes, trips me up, ignores my existence, kicks litter everywhere (out of a box with a lid, she literally has to hold the flap open to do it), scrounges, randomly claws the crap out of you and a million other jerky qualities. We adore her for being like that though.

This week my DH has been very very poorly in hospital, so I have been home alone with her. I have been up the hospital so much I expected her to be a nightmare as she always is if we are busier than normal. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Every time I come home she runs to me at the door and tries to climb up into my arms. She then follows me around surgically attached to my side until I sit down and cuddle with her. She then pushes herself as close to me as she possibly can, nuzzling into me and snuggling really close.

This is so unlike her as she is usually pretty aloof and only loving etc when she wants something. She just seems to get that I'm completely broken without DH and that I need some comfort. I'm 24 weeks pg too and it's really nice to not feel so alone right now.

I'm more grateful than I have ever been to have this kitty in my life and am amazed at her intuition and ability to comfort me at a seriously low point. Cats are completely amazing.

I read that title as inedible and wondered what you'd been trying...

Bless.

My cat used to utterly avoid me when I was ill. It was the only thing that would truly worry DH about my health, when HairyFace started to give me the cold shoulder!

My eldest cat - a scrappy, rescue female ginger - has decided that she is in charge of ds2's bedtime. She likes to sleep in his bed and hassles me if I don't get him off to bed on time (he's 8) Hmm She also likes the bedtime stories I read to him and will come and sit next to us to listen (even if she's not ready to go to bed yet).

Ahhh. Yours is such a lovely tale that I am happy, in this instance, to refrain from sharing with the wider world my real views on cats! Hope DH gets better soon.

Definitely agree re dogs too, my now departed golden retriever would just lay her head in my lap if I was upset and refuse to move even for food. Seeing as she lived for food of any kind it used to really mean a lot.

Cats just surprise me more with it, especially my girl as she is not usually like this at all. At the minute she has her head shmushed into my chest, it's really really sweet (and is making me cry my bloody eyes out).

Thank you for the well wishes.

Cats are fab. Our 2 aren't typical lap cats but can definately sense when things are wrong. One of them definately knew I was pregnant. When we had dc1 they used to miaow at us when she cried.

Hope your dh gets better soon and give your cat a cuddle from me.

I completely agree.

My amazing puss is ten now and we are dreading the thought of life without her someday in the not too distant future.

My old cat knew I was PG and wouldn't leave me alone. Even sitting on my bump and getting kicked from underneath. Grin
She would always sit on my knee why I was feeding too even though there wasn't much room.

Sparkling Cat is a delight and seems to love the whole family wanting fusses at certain times from different people.

I hope your DH gets better soon. When can he come home?

Cats Rule Grin

My cat is just a big fluffy baby and has been brill since my ds came along...he has been so patient and ds just loves him.

I think all animals have great intuition...some people could do worse than to learb from them!

Hope your dh is better soon.

When I was pregnant with my first, I came down with a tummy bug. I puked every 15 minutes for 15 hours. Husband was away somewhere.

Cat lay next to me on his pillow looking serenely at me the whole time. She usually would ignore me when he was away.

Husband had flu and lay spread-eagled on the bed dying for 3 days. Cat didn't move except to pee.

Once I had a weird tummy problem, turned out to be acid related, but I was in so much discomfort I came downstairs at 4am and sort of "lay" on the sofa (or contorted myself in such a way on my side that I wasn't in agonising pain). Cat jumped on top of me and palpated me with her paws and god knows why but I felt better for a couple of hours, better than I'd felt in 6 days.

Rest of the time she is tripping me up, plotting my demise, and cursing her 345,003,245th day in captivity

Thanks so much for your replies, DH is not at all well and I'm not sure when he will be coming home. And to top it off I lost my coat at the hospital :( I left it in a loo by accident and it's gone. It's stupid but I really liked that coat. :(

Nice to hear my cat is not the only intuitive one.

I hope you and DH are OK op. We have three - one is very attentive if someone is ill and will lie quietly and ovingly at the side of the patient. The other two don't but are always no trouble when there's trouble afoot iygwim

Sorry to hear about your husband and the lost cost OP :(

My two cats never seem particularly bothered when I'm ill though I still remember one memorable occasion when I was still with ex and he'd spoiled yet another night out with petty rows etc.

Sat on the sofa, had a good cry and fell asleep in all my finery.

Woke up to one cat sitting on the top of the sofa and the other sitting next to me with that expression on their faces that seems to say 'hey, it'll be ok'

So lovely especially since they don't get on, fight and refuse to sit nicely in close proximity, ever.

Helped me end the relationship actually as remember thinking 'even the cats know he's an arse' Grin

Thank you so much for the kind words. The doctors are a tiny bit happier with DH this afternoon so that's got to be a good thing. The coat wasn't handed in anywhere so I think someone has decided they wanted it :( however if they need to steal a coat from a toilet cubical, I feel sorry for them.

Cats definitely know when someone is a bad person. My cat has rarely taken against anyone we have invited into our home, but the couple of times she has that person has turned out to be a nasty piece of work. Funny how they know far more than we do.

Heffacat also knew I was pregnant before I did. She would jump onto my lap then look at me, freak out and fly off again, repeatedly. Once we had done the test and realised I was pregnant she went back to normal. Confused
