AIBU?

AIBU to think all clocks with a ticking sound should be banned if not burnt...and recycled into a sleepy human friendly version!

I don't find it soothing in the slightest and yet some people choose to have them?!

sorry, should explain, sleeping at my mother's, lovely evening and now this horrendous clock is shamelessly ticking away. Nice clock in itself, just the ticking!

YABVVVFU.

There is nothing more soothing than the sound of a ticking clock in balance. Out of balance there is a slight inequality to the ticks and that is annoying.

In my brother's house it is possible to sit in one place and hear about 12 distinctly different ticks. I just have the one, I would love to get more mechanical clocks.

They're horrible. Dad bought me one "oohh you will get used to it"
Bollocks I will, I sleep in darkness with no sound. Even a standby light on the tv bugs me
Clock resides under a blanket where I can hear alarm but no irritating ticking
Every tick makes me angrier and angrier Grin

My DM once solved this problem (loud clock and hot room) by taking the duvet out of the duvet cover, covering the clock and going back to sleep. My aunt was NOT IMPRESSED.

Well YABU and YANBU. I have two clocks in my bedroom - an Edwardian wind up clock on my dressing table that drove us mad when I first got it and is now rather soothing and a cheapish alarm clock near my bed.

Took me ages to find an alarm clock I liked and the bastard thing ticks loudly. You do get used to it, but it is annoying. The ASDA one I had first was silent but the ring would wake the dead.

Ticking clocks in bedrooms are terrible. I have been known to banish a ticking clock to the back of a wardrobe or outside the bedroom door. I have a lovely silent digital clock with non glowing lights. It is perfect.

I can't be doing with ticking clocks in the bedroom. I don't like digital clocks, either. Just as well I wake up when I want to.:o

YANBU. My mum thinks they are soothing too but SIBVU. If I ever stay in a hotel that has one I actually have to take the batteries out or conceal it in a drawer. It's like water torture.

Regular clock ticking in a dark room simulated the womb and your mothers heartbeat.

My mum lived in s house with a clock tower for a while and the noise of the ticking was horrendous in the middle of the night. When I used to go and stay I would usually climb into the clock tower (access was through s tiny door off the bedroom I slept in) and wedge something against the pendulum. I've had an almost allergic reaction to clocks ticking at night ever since!

Generally I would say YABU but we bought Ds a clock for his new room, one of those clocks with the time in different countries so he has the time here, and 3 different places. They all tick. Every single bloody one. And they're not syncronised either so it's like a continuous clicking noise in his room.
It took a little getting used to tbh...
(And no it didn't occur to us at the time!)

I hate ticking clocks with a passion. When I as younger and stayed over at my nan's house I'd stuff the clock in a beanbag so I couldn't hear it. There's just no need.

YANBU

I couldn't sleep last night and annoyed DH with my constant tossing and turning so I decamped to the sofa

My god, I never realised the clock in the living room was so bloody loud. It got kicked out to the garage.

Although, my mum has a grandfather clock. That chimes every 15 bloody minutes, ticking pales into insignificance compared to the sodding ding dong ding dong all night

You are all unreasonable! They are works of masterpiece time telling art and there is every reason. If you don't want your ticking clocks, send 'em all to me! Grin

I quite like a ticking clock in the day time/evening, but if there is one in my bedroom it has to go. If I am staying at someone's house I put it out on the landing or under a pillow. I really, really can't cope with then - can't sleep at all.

YABU.

I agree that they're perhaps best kept out of bedrooms if you're not used to the ticking, but banning (or burning) all of them is completely OTT.

for anyone who thinks ticking clocks are awful I'd like to invite you to an episode of nightwatch at our house - it's like sleep clinic meets orchestra of everyone snoring so bloody loudly!

DH is the worst.
you wouldn't hear a clock ticking.... Grin

I've got two clocks in my living room. one ticks when the other tocks and VV.

I don't notice it but anyone who has to sleep over in the living room looks like this the following morning.

I always mean to remember to remove them when I have guests. Blush
