as it's happening here now :( Shock. I have posted on several threads in my limited time here in the last few weeks and a fair few have been deleted as they were started by frogs, badgers and hares

is this an affliction that only I have been blessed with? Confused

Ooh, I'm ALWAYS attracting weirdos!!! It's a standing joke between my family and my DP.

I try not to make eye contact too much now with anyone! I guess we just have friendly faces. Grin

I am also cursed with this affliction, plus I must have the look of someone who knows things about stuff as am quite frequently stopped in the street by people to ask questions (how do I get x? is a y nearby? etc) .

Perhaps it's just that I look pleasant and approachable, which is no bad thing really Smile .

I always attract weirdos. Dh calls them my "waifs and strays" - some are people I go on to be friends with, but take any random suicidally depressed person (I'm not joking I've been there) and me on a bus, I'm the one they sit beside - took someone to hospital once!

I'm a good listener, always had been. But sometimes I goes a leeeeetle far!

oh weegiemum, I think that's really quite lovely actual. If only there were more people like you

Could I just ask what you so charmingly class as a 'weirdo'?

I find the term incredibly offensive.

You sound about 12 years old, ffs!

And I hate to think of a suicidal person being described as such, this is why so many people don't seek the help they need, the stigma attached.

Lets hope you never get severe PND or anything, or if you do I hope others just treat you as a non-person and a leper!

We know that Owl There's always one though. I had a similar thread about a nutter on the bus. I attract them all the time. I had a man sit next to me though the bus was nearly empty. He then tried to sell me a fake phone. I declined and he then asked for my number to add to his fake phone Confused

He then sat for the rest of the journey breathing heavy on my cheek as he read everything I did on my phone. He got off the stop before me. I thought he was going to follow me tbh.

I attract confidences from people. Often strangers. I'm sure they often regret telling me later. I'm not certain how I do it, I might only be standing in a queue with them or sitting in a coffee shop and they begin to unload their life stories to me. It can be quite troubling.
It certainly annoys my husband!

I observed two men in a coffee shop the other day. The first man began to regale the other with story of his marriage break up. It was a very distressing story. The second man listened whilst not making any eye contact or commenting.
When the first man eventually stopped talking as he was so chocked up with emotion the second man said "we'll what about that result on Saturday." They both then began to chat about football. The first man having totally regained his composure.

I think I might have learned a lesson.

Sorry, but what is light-hearted/funny about this?

This is a really sore point for me as I had to drop out of uni due to coursemates bullying me, saying that I was 'weird' and even starting a derogatory FB group about me.

Sad

SPs those are exactly the kind of things that happen to me.

I feel bad now, I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I am indeed 12. I do actually live with a couple of eccentrics, it's not always a bad thing to be different Wink

Sugar This isn't about you though. Its about random strange people who do obviously strange things. Such as the man I wrote about. Sorry about your experience but this isn't about you.

BTW, if someone started a thread using racist/disablist/sexist derogatory language but explained that it was only meant to be 'lighthearted' and 'funny', is that okay?

Should all black/asian, disabled people and feminists just get over themselves because there is no need to be offended if it was only meant as a joke?

It is a standing joke in our family, that if I am left alone for a moment, I will always be accosted by a strange, shouty and often drunken man.
It has happened to me in Brussels, Florence and the south of France. And most recently in a local naice pub.
It has got to the stage where my family just stand there laughing their heads off while I deal with the idiot.
