AIBU?

to want to be a size six ?

i am pretty petite (five 2 and "small boned" ) if i was taller, even just a couple more inches i would be more than happy being a 10 - 12 as proportionally i would still look very slim. but i am a shortarse little and every extra Lb shows :/

and would probably only need to lose 5 - 10lbs to get to this size (am currently 8 stone 2, and a dress size 8 - 10 )

i have been a size 6 before in my teens and early 20s and after i had dc1 and became single and basically couldn't afford to eat and felt great at that size, like i could wear anything

i just think very slim women look great in anything Envy ....and thats just MY opinion btw so i dont want to offend anyone

YANBU- I'd like to be a size 6 too! Though preferably an 8. However, as a 5,3, 12 stone wearer of size 14/16... This is merely a pipe dream for me!

Um...I'm 5ft 2, just over 8 stone and a size 8-10. I've almost just lost my baby weight (7 st 11 pre baby). And you've just made me feel fat, thanks.

I'm 5'3 and for a long time around 6 1/2 stone, hated it but struggled to put on weight. Much prefer my 9 stone post-birth body.

I am a size 6 and I hate it. I am constantly being told to eat more by well-meaning people and I feel really unfeminine. I am desperate to put weight on but various health issues combined with a v fast metabolism mean I struggle to keep even a couple of pounds on for long.
If you are naturally a size 8 - 10 now, then that is a healthy size for you. YABU

I think its a very shallow ambition, tbh.

I think you sound very thin indeed - I weighed 8.2 at 5'4" when I was 17 and was really really skinny.

Do you think you may be getting overly worked up about sizes? I bet you look lovely.

I was in the preschool foyer the other day and this "naturally slim" (i.e genuinely one of those naturally little people) mum was in there and I was just thinking how bloody great she looked and would look great in anything.

But she is one of those naturally slim people, and by that I mean not necessarily someone who can get away with eating loads, but someone who is naturally active and not lazily inclined and also doesn't have an appetite for sweet food or a particularly large appetite at all and never has.

They do exist, and they look good for it, but you can look good if you are curvy too.

Also because she's sort of built that way she doesn't have dogey bones sticking out, or a gaunt face, she just looks like she should be that way. If you try and achieve it beyond your bodies set point I think you can end up looking lollipop or scary.

There is more to life but to be miserably thin (!) and not think about it...yeah why not, I could have me some of that. Maybe in the next life?!

Ah Minty, you once made me feel better about myself when I was having a real wobble on a thread like this.

I used to be this tiny. Am also 5'3" and used to be 7st 10 ish.
Was 8 stone 3 at three months into my pregnancy, but was very ill after babe was born and back to work ft, so put on two stones with steroids etc.

Now am a biggish 12 and 14 on hips, with an untoned tummy, and remember how lovely it was to be fit and healthy without having to worry that I look like a sack of potatoes, with every lump and bump showing.

I'd say go for it, but watch that you have a well, balanced nutritious diet and reasonable exercise regime.

Maybe get a nutritional expert to help you.

I'll get round to this soon, but think for me now with my lifestyle, 8and a half stone is more realistic goal for me.

So yanbu!

I think it depends on your proportions too. I'm 5'0 and a size 6. I'm 7 stone. I'm currently trying to put on weight as I'm sick of people saying I'm too thin etc etc. I think I could do with about 1/2 stone more. I have a lot of thick hair and no boobage whatsoever so a bit 'lollipop head'!
The trouble is that after 2 kids the weight tends to just go round the middle which is very annoying.

You sound unhealthily fixated on your dress size to me. You were once a size 6, but by your own admission that was due to starving yourself. Therefore your natural size is not that small and it will take an unhealthy approach to achieve. Not to mention the signals it sends your child(ren) for an already slim woman to 'diet' herself ridiculously skinny, without seemingly bothering aout the health implications
Not good. Not good at all.

If you're 5'2", dropping much below 8 stone would make you underweight.

I am your height and I gymmed and dieted down to your weight for my wedding. It didn't last long, I put 3 stone on when I got pregnant.

As I recall, 5'2" and 8stone 2 is very slim but not ridiculous. I was very happy with that size while it lasted. Lose 10lb more and you'd probably be too skinny. But I do understand because I wanted to lose more although it was irrational. Please be careful.

Also you don't say how old you are, after a certain age, being skinny can be quite aging, especially in the face.

oh god soooooo true chigley :( i think if my tummy was totally flat, like it was pre kids, i would be ok being a bigger size

and yes i completely agree "its a shallow ambition" (cant remember who said it) but i promise its not my only ambition, i do have other, more worthy ambitions i promise :o

You sound slim enough as you are. I'm 5 ft 2, size 8-10 too and find my natural limit is 8st 7, and generally lurk around the 9st mark which is a perectly healthy BMI. I'd love to get rid of the mummy wobble in the middle but it's not going to happen by any natural/ healthy means and it's not worth trying to force my body to do something that is shouldn't regardless of how I looked as a teenager.

Clothes size is just a guide to a fit of a garment, it shouldn't define you. How you look in yourself and how healthy you are is much more important.

I don't think a 6 is that scrawny. With vanity sizing it is about the size of an old ten, isn't it.

I too am shallow and would always like to be thinner than I am.

has someone said you are unreasonable OP? it seems an odd thing for someone to be affronted about

It'll be a bugger to find clothes, though.

Just by the way, why 'size 6' rather than a particular weight? Or even a waist measurement I could understand, but you know, if it's the number that does it for you, all you need to do is shop somewhere with massive sizes. Size 6 is totally meaningless, it's just the label the shop slaps on whatever they decide.

I think TBH it's not a very healthy attitude anyway, since you ask, and I don't think slim women look great in everything - my feeling is, if you're thinking that, chances are you're using your current size as a stick to beat yourself with and trying to promise yourself you'd be happier if only you lost weight.

Better to eat healthily and concentrate on working out what else would make you happy, IMHO.

I'm a size 6 but wouldn't say I'm slim. I have a flabby belly and love handles.

I'm 4foot 11.5

At 5'2" being a 6 and less than 8st is perfectly reasonable.

But if it's bodyshape that's bothering you, I think exercise would be more beneficial than a diet.
