..to think Game of Thrones is Coronation Street with tits and pelts?

I am only on episode six of series 1 but I have to say I am finding it interminably dull. Am I missing something here? The acting is shit; there's the ubiquitous (and puffy-faced) Sean Bean spouting forth in his Sheffield timbre; the fat bloke from The Syndicate sweating and bellowing all over the place; and I'm sure I've spotted Eric pollard in there somewhere, too. There are lots of whores, bathing and doggy-style sex (not to mention some rather unnecessary schlurping during the fellatio scenes) but very little else to capture the imagination.

What the actual fuck is going on? Where is it going? How come no-one's heard of the missionary position? What's beyond The Wall? Why is there a woman breastfeeding a twelve year-old? I'm so frigging bored of it all I'm only continuing to watch in the hope that Tyrone and Fiz turn up and get down to some bumming in Ye Olde Rovers Return.

Someone help me to see the light?

It does get better.

It got better for me when a few key things happened, but I agree with you, the first season was dire.

Series one was good! Series two is more violent, so if you prefer that, it might be worth hanging on?

You've only got four episodes left of series one, so it's only four hours, but it may not be worth it if you don't like it. It seems to be something people either love or hate. Never heard it get compared to corrie, though!

I hated it I dont get it at all I normally like stuff like that but I think it is pretentious twaddle I watched 2 episodes

I can't believe I've hung on this long, euphemia. I've read so much praise for it on mumsnet and there were little frissons of excitement in anticipation of series 3 so, naturally, I was thrilled when we got SKY last week. I'm gutted that it's turned out to be a pile of steaming horse shit

Caja, my Corrie reference is down to all t'Northern accents. Seriously, if I close my eyes it's like being at my sewing machine at Underworld

The stories and the writing are very different to Coronation Street (or at least to how it was the last time I saw it - has Corrie got a shitload better in recent years?).

YANBU to not like it or for it to not be to your taste.

YABU to say it is like Coronation Street, unless by that you mean contains people with Northern accents.

Coronation Street is a story about people.
Game of Thrones is also a story about people.

The way the people fuck one another over in Game of Thrones is a bit more bloody.

I much prefer Game of Thrones. :o

I don't get why it's being called pretentious though? Most odd.
