Decision (?) always gets me.

I hate it when people spell ejaculate as cum.

It is so horribly disgusting and cringey.

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 12:50:08

There is an independant school thread in active at the moment. I am dying to go on that thread and be sad and spiteful.

almapudden Sat 20-Apr-13 12:50:19

It also makes teaching Latin to twelve year olds pure torture.

cum means 'with' in Latin.

nobiscum means 'with us'.

It is awful.

LadyM Oops, didn't mean to sound snarky! But it's a very common error. And I'm a massive pedant, on account of having worked as an editor smile

I did once have to correct someone who wanted to write about the Dance of the Seven Vales. Which conjured up a rather amusing picture of what would have happened had Salome been born in Yorkshire:

King: That were a right good dance, lass. What does tha want for 'present?
Salome: I'll 'ave head o' John t' Baptist on 'plate
King: Daft bint

Salmotrutta Sat 20-Apr-13 12:54:50

grin

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 12:55:13

Or Dance of the Severn Vales

Ooh arr can I borrow your tractor etc

Salmotrutta Sat 20-Apr-13 12:55:26

I like the idea of a Yorkshire Herod and Salome!

badbride Sat 20-Apr-13 13:00:34

LOL at Severn Vales grin

I can't spell write/type definitely without hearing this in my head.

Definitely Beautiful! Definitely Beautiful! De FINITE ly Be A Utiful!

Ha ha, I just logged in to start exactly the same thread after one 'definately' (or was it 'defiantly'?) too many. You are not being unreasonable in the slightest.

LadyMountbatten Sat 20-Apr-13 13:11:10

no ! not at all snarky. I LOVE to learn! wink

LadyMountbatten Sat 20-Apr-13 13:11:32

go in gerroff. I will hold your feet

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 13:33:04

No, fucking hell, private school bashing AND criticism of spelling mistakes on mumsnet. I'm not crazy!

OxfordBags Sat 20-Apr-13 13:44:41

My pet hate is when people say pacifically, instead of specifically. Also when they hyperbolise superlatives: I heard a woman at a toddler group this week describe someone as "The most beautifullest". Who are you, fucking Lola from Charlie and Lola? Sheeeesh.

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 13:47:36

And whilst we are on a general free range moan, can I slag off grown women who refer to their friends as BFFs. I seriously Thought that it meant best female friend until dd laughed at me and told me it means best friends FOREVA. I think unless you are 13 or Kim Kardashian yo shouldn't use this term.

SomethingSuitablyWitty Sat 20-Apr-13 13:51:46

See I thought bff was best female friend too. Is that definitely wrong then?

WorriedMummy73 Sat 20-Apr-13 13:58:02

I have some great examples (thinking of pacifically) from DP's workmates:

'I was so drunk I was cromatosed'.

and

getting the train home from 'Heuston' each week (rather than Euston, ffs).

When I was at college my Maths teacher was writing a problem on the board about a cake shop and he asked us how to spell meringue. So I told him, then he and the ENTIRE class shouted me down. He actually wrote 'merang' on the board. My face was shock shock shock. I know it's not a common word and not everyone knows it, but 'merang', really? And the fact that I was the only one who knew it? That was 20 years ago...

LadyMountbatten Sat 20-Apr-13 14:00:31

or HOLIBOBS

they normally show they are twats though by wearing hello kitty t shirts and pigtails.

OxfordBags Sat 20-Apr-13 14:07:23

Can I also add that, much as I love my father, who is an otherwise highly intelligent man, I will not be responsible for my actions if he pronounces sci-fi 'sky-fi' one more time. Grrrrrrr.

sassytheFIRST Sat 20-Apr-13 14:08:41

And Wiffy.

As in, can you tell me your Wiffy password please?

No. Fuck off you semi-literate boil on the arse of humanity.

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 14:09:01

I know someone who had a bad back and needed lumbar support. But he called it slumber support.

He's dead now, thankfully.

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 14:09:36

Oh I as wiffy. I am a bit of an arse though.

Gerrof Sat 20-Apr-13 14:09:43

I SAY

LadyMountbatten Sat 20-Apr-13 14:16:10
