then it would be called abusive?

am just watching an episode now

the bloke is not allowed to even buy his own clothes

the woman is SO controlling and it's all laughed off as being 'she's wears the trousers'

it's actually emotional abuse surely?

I've never watched this programme, but I'm guessing it's on BBC3?!

I'm amazed some if the brides found someone to propose. High maintenance doesn't cover it for some of them

I know there is a certain amount of editing, but the way some of these shows on BBC3 present some participants' relationships is shocking. Like "Steve is not allowed any more except what Claire gives him as he can't be trusted. Isn't it all a jolly jape!". Eh, no. If it were the other way round mumsnet would be telling the woman to LTB as she was being abused financially and emotionally.

Some of the women on that show are awful, so controlling of their fiancés that it's painful to watch. Yanbu, it shouldn't be brushed off as her being high maintenance or 'wearing the trousers'.

But when it all works out, it is really sweet - I love the ones where the bride seems to have a really definite idea and then just loves what her affianced/groom/husband-to-be chooses 'cause he put all that effort in and it's all lovely!

And some awful mothers AmberLeaf !! They are getting a free wedding after all-so annoying when they winge and moan.

Yes, lots of 'fluffing' going on by the Mothers of the brides!

Spose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I can't watch it anymore, think Ive watched about 3-4 episodes and spent much of them shouting at the screen 'run...run and don't look back!'

by 'fluffing' I mean pandering to the entitled daughters.

There was one who wouldn't allow her partner to have his own bank card. I think she gave him £50 to live off for the three weeks they were apart.

I am watching it atm! They pick couples with a very controlling bride because it makes for 'better tv'. Hmm

Why is it so important that the bridesmaid's dresses, chair ribbons, flowers, cars etc etc etc all match anyway? I think it just looks totally unimaginative and tacky.

Is it on sky tv? I want to watch

I've seen some worse men than woman on that show.
Men who buy their fiancees flashy showy dresses that they know their fiancee would feel awkward in, but insist on it because she must look like 'the bride', or get their brides to do silly dances or ostentatious routines for show . Or make vulgar comments about women's body shapes during fittings, or take the piss out of their mums/mils. Or spend tons on nasty, tacky strippers and clubs for the stag do , leaving the petty remains for the girl's hen night/ and more often than not the girls are gushy and grateful when they've been treated like crap on public telly.

What about the one were the guy spent most of the money on a Las Vegas wedding then didn't have enough to get the bride's brother over. He was a selfish bastard.

kinkyfuckery · 09/04/2013 18:19

Oh that one was horrendous Naysa

Although, I think he genuinely didn't think it would feel like that to the bride and he was devastated when it was pointed out to him.

I'd love a series of 'Two Years Later' type shows though!

I would love to know if Las Vegas couple are still married. He should have married his best friend.

They did a follow up show which included the the Las Vegas couple.

They were still together, but they renewed their vows a year later and she had the 'wedding' that she wanted.

My absolute fav was the bride who was swigging champagne out the bottle in her Jordan type carriage on the way to the church and when it was time for the first dance she was passed out in the honeymoon suite
