AIBU?

To be considering sending Environmental Health into this cafe?

We went out for lunch at a cafe in our local park today. It was actually quite expensive so we expected good quality food. We were confronted with tinned tomato soup which was luke warm at best, stale bread and margerine. I sent my entire ploughmans back as the cheddar had traces of green mould on it and the bread was also stale. DDs glass of milk had black specks in it which they claimed were chocolate Hmm We had to remind them 3 times to bring the drinks and twice to bring bread (which finally turned up stale)

They said it wsan't their fault as they were low on staff. They did not offer us a refund and were basically unhelpful and unfriendly.

We spent quite a lot of money (nearly £30 between 3 of us) We won't be going back but I'm so angry with their attitude I feel like calling Environmental Health and asking them to do an inspection. AIBU or just vindictive?

just you would need to make a proper report, env health don't go to places because the soup was tinned

you should have brought this up at the time....stale bread, why didn't you say something? ask for money back?

We did ask for our money back but as I said they refused it when we complained and said it was not their fault. Sorry may not have been clear. (dont really care about the tinned soup do care it was only luke warm)

Low staffing issues have nothing to do with shit food. I'd contact environmental health; cold soup (depends on how long it's been luke warm for), mouldy cheese (boak) no idea what the black specks inside the milk were. Not a lot you can do about shit service though.

Why did you pay? I wouldn't have paid for stale and mouldy food. I would've just left.

We had to pay when we ordered the food or we would have just left. We've been there in the past and its been fine but I think the management may have changed

Slowly calming down Grin

Is it the sort of place where you have to pay first before seeing the food and they refused to refund you when you saw it and didn't want it?

Did you actually eat/drink any of it?

I would report them, yes. They sound shit. Are they part of a chain at all?

Go back and ask to speak to the manager.Explain the situation and let them know that while your complaint was not well received at the time, you are, nonetheless, extremely unhappy about the food you were served up.Explain that although you appreciate they were busy, you would have expected the food to have been of an acceptable standard.

Hopefully once they aren't under so much pressure they will respond more reasonably. If not perhaps you should take further action.

And don't eat there again!

Not a chain.

We ate part of the meal - enough to establish it was stale and luke warm. DD ate her roll as it seemed to be fine but left her milk as it had black specks floating in it. The first time we took it back it was in a see through glass but when they brought it back it was in a mug so we couldn't see in as easily but it obviously still had bits in it

Tis consumer direct for the shit service. If you want the legalities of it (snooze!) you entered into a contract with the cafe when you ordered and paid and they didn't deliver. You should be entitled to a refund via the Sale of Goods Act (told you this was boring). Can you call the manager? Don't let them fob you off by saying it was down to 'staffing issues', this is no excuse for selling shit.

I bet they just tipped it into a mug, bubbles.
