To expect Argos to help me carry a 9ft slide to my car?

Maybe I'm being really over-entitled, so wanted to gauge opinions.
Just popped into Argos to spend £99 on a slide for my 3 year olds birthday. Shop is in a shopping centre, lift goes down to underground car park.
I asked very nicely if someone might be able to help me carry it down, as I'm pregnant and expected it to be a big bulky box.
No was the response, they couldn't spare anyone. The shop had about 2 customers in.
It would have taken no more than 5 minutes for someone to have helped.
I wish in hindsight I'd asked to speak to a Mgr / complained a bit more.
Customer service in this country is really poor.

YANBU - my local argos always ask if I need a hand if I have bought anything large from them!

That is an outrageous reponse, esp given your are pg!!!! I would have been tempted to give it back and get a refund.

I think you should call and complain about their shitty customer services.

It costs nothing to be nice. YANBU. This is why I live living in Canada, they would fall over themselves to help. In fact, one of the other customers would probably have offered.

Amber - I understand that home delivery is an option, my fault, I left it too late. But seriously, I wasn't asking them to help me to the other side of town. It would have been a 5 minute job.

Argos do have a carry to car service and all stores have a hand truck for that purpose

Most out of town shopping centres also have customer service staff in the malls that will also assist to cars

You will get people telling you you should have planned better, got it delivered etc but you could complain if you feel the need

YANBU. I've had Argos staff help me to the car with large purchases before! At their insistence. They should have a couple of flatbed trolleys for this purpose.

I'm going to have to think of an alternative or wait until the weekend and ask DH to go in.

Our out of town one always offer! There's one in town where customers have to use the shopping mall car park and I've seen them help there.

I've had help before in Argos - without having to ask - when I was trying to drag a sandpit (and several bags of sand!) across the road to my car. I agree that it should be part of the customer service. Especially when you are pregnant.

I bought DS a slide from Argos for his 3rd birthday. They didn't help then either; I looked like some deranged surfer struggling round the corner to the car with the wind blowing it around.

The slides aren't too heavy, just bulky to carry.

DH is going to go back out to ToysRUs tonight to buy it from there instead.
Pregnancy hormones don't help, I don't normally get this riled .

You knew it was going to be bulky. Part of planning a purchase is planning how you will get it home (car, delivery, etc.)

Lougle, I expected at 4pm on a Thursday, that someone in-store would help me carry it about 10m to a lift, go down two flights in a lift and carry it about another 10 metres to the car park right.

I obviously have too high expectations of customer service.

Plus I am so disorganised, I don't have the time to wait for home delivery

Totally not unreasonable.

Shit customer service and actually just shit. I bet if there had been a few customers in there someone would have helped since it's just the decent thing to do. To not do it or a customer, particularly a pregnant one who ASKED for help is appalling.

I hope you got a refund and left the shop. And do complain.
