to think my friend looks silly driving around with her car roof down in February?

Friend bought a new car 6ish months ago, it is her pride and joy. Think constant updates, lots of photos on facebook etc.

Today we were saying what a nice day it was ... clear skies, sun shining - but it was obviously still freezing.

Friend says "yes it was so nice I've been driving around with the roof down"

Hmm

See if I had a that sort of car I would only put the roof down when it was actually hot.

I know she has probably been dying to do this .... but regardless of who it was - if I saw someone driving with their roof down in February I'd be thinking numpty what a complete show off Grin

Are you sure she is your friend?

This is a somewhat odd way to talk about your friend.

As long as she is happy, it doesn't matter. Fwiw I've been driving around with the roof down today as well. Perfect weather for it Smile

TBPH, you sound a little bit Envy.
I had a convertible car - a 2CV. It was a fucking nightmare with the roof off. Nothing like I thought it would be.

It was gorgeous today. I sat outside and ate my lunch.

And if I had a car with a top-downable roof, I'd have driven about like your friend. With a bikini on.

I've seen people with their rooves down in far chillies temperatures than today. As an aside, if said folks have insufficient headgear on to prevent brain freeze, can the police stop them for dangerous driving?

YABU you sound jealous and bitter. who cares if she drives around with the car roof off - maybe it gives her some joy? do you have any joy in your life?

When I lived in the UK, my roof was down year round. It really doesn't get cold....except in the back! But the kids sit there not me! Now I am in far warmer climes I rarely put the roof down as I need the AC. I miss it, the very best time is at night and there isn't any sun at all then. YABU

I remember someone saying once if you have a convertible the only time the roof should be up is when it's raining!

YABVU - crisp clear cold days are perfect for driving with the roof down. So are clear nights when your passenger can look up at the stars. If it's cold that's what the heater is for! Hot summer days are good too. All weather is good for convertible cars :) except rain obviously. And snow/hail/sleet.

I miss my 2 seater convertible, can you tell?

Oh, a beautiful, bluesky, crisp day is wonderful for driving with the roof down. Good jacket on and heating full blast on the feet though!

More info, please.

  1. Was she wearing sunglasses?

  1. Did she have her hair covered with a headscarf tied round the neck in that cool way women did in 50s/60s movies?

I'd show off, too. :o

I prefer driving on a cold sunny winters day with the roof down to driving in the summer, you don't get too hot!

DHs car is convertible, love putting roof down on a sunny day. So what if it's cold. It has heating and heated seats. Just a lovely feeling to be driving with the sun and air on your face Smile
Are you sure you are not just a wee bit Envy

I think that you are a bit jealous! If I had one the roof would be down on lovely days, whatever the month.

DD was very pissed off that I refused yesterday. It was a gorgeous day with the in shining. But it is old once you start driving plus I am a curmudgeon.
Driving with the roof down is an experience about more than just letting the sun in tbh.
Don't knock it until you have done it. It can be quite joyous, especially the first time you are able to in the midst of a grizzly winter.

I think your friend sounds happy. I would let her be.

I wouldn't think anything of your friend driving with the roof down
I do think its weird that you have an issue with it and you don't sound like much of a friend

I think YABU. Although your friend sounds a bit "look at me!!!" you also sound a bit green.

I've had a soft top and used to put roof down on sunny days whatever the temp (heated seats and heater!!). The only time I ever felf a bit of a wally (and that others might think the same!!) was if I was in stationary/crawling traffic in town - the whole idea for me of a soft top is being out on the open road, wind in hair etc

I saw someone driving down the road with the roof down yesterday - I thought she looked V glamorous!

It wouldn't occur to me to think someone's a bit of a numpty for doing that, although it would cross my mind to wonder how good their car heater is Grin

I miss my convertible Sad. I can't wait to get another one (I currently have the boring, sensible, family car and DH has the fun car although it's not a convertible). If I had one now I would definitely have had the roof off yesterday.

You sound to have a touch of the green-eyed monsters.
It was a car roof off day yesterday.

I did shiver a little at the man running at 6.30am when there was frost around, in his flappy shorts and no vest.

I miss my convertible .
Some years , you only get dry days in February , remember the so called summer of 2012 so you need to have the roof down , heating turned up , gloves and scarf on and just go for it .
YABU and a bit jealous .

YABU. I had a convertible but we sold it to get our VW van. I really, really miss it on sunny days. The joy of racing down country lanes with the music blasting and the wind in your hair Grin.

I had a Saab with heated seats and super hot heater. With a hat on it was perfectly fine in Feb.

Your friend has found something to give her a little joy in her life. Why do you begrudge her that?
