to not understand people who bag up their dog's poo then leave the bag behind

Is there a really obvious reason I'm not getting, lacking the dog ownership knowledge as I am? Perhaps if they picked it up on their way back I'd understand, but they don't. Our village is littered with neat little bags of dog shit, sometimes hanging on fences or trees, sometimes just left on the ground. Do these people think they're any less of a twat than the people who do nothing? Who do they expect to pick up the bag and dispose of it properly? Have they considered how interesting a neatly knotted bag looks to a 2 year old? Am I allowed to scream obscenities if I witness them doing this, or will a dog owner enlighten me as to why this is, in fact, perfectly reasonable and universally condoned behaviour?

I always assume that someone has left it there to pick up on their way back and just forgotten. It's very annoying.

I wouldn't scream obscenities over it I save that for parking twats but I would remind them to take the sack of dog shite with them if I saw it being left behind.

My ILs did this on walks but always always picked up and disposed of the poo on the way back.

Maybe people are making a point about lack of dog poo bins? Confused

pjmama that was my assumption the first time I saw this. But now that I've realised the same bags are there several days later, and the quantity of bags in the area is escalating, I'm assuming this is a smartarse response to the local notices about dog poo.

lurkedtoolong there are plenty of bins in the wide open spaces, none along the main residential pavements, but as it's not that large a village I doubt anyone has too far to walk to get their dog back home, where they could perhaps dispose of it in their own bin.

I've done it a couple of times when dog has been at the beginning of a walk and there are no poo bins, but always picked it up on the way back

The only time I do this is out in the woods as my bloody dog always goes right at the start but too far form car/bin. I collect it on the way back. If I'm not going back the same way or am somewhere "urban" I have a plastic box in my bag to put them in.

It could be that there are no bins (which does annoy me) but is more likely to be because they don't want to carry it with them.

And besides, there are normal rubbish bins, wouldn't it be better to put the bag in any kind of bin rather than hang it on a fence at the perfect height for a toddler's curious reach?

How is your area for bins to put the bagged up horrors in? I have a mental map of where the bins are locally, but I do have a horror of taking the poobags into the car and will do a lot to avoid that situation. If I'm doing a there and back walk I will leave it for collection on my return if I know the next bin is half a mile but the one behind is only a hundred yards iyswim. I wouldn't leave it just lying there though with no intention to ever move it on, and I really can't get the mentality of the person who bagged it then threw it into a thorn bush where it then dangled for THREE YEARS!!!

xposted loads

We don't have any official dogpoo bins, but plenty of normal ones thank god.

On the way to school, I don't want to carry it through the playground. I intend to pick it up on the way back, but a couple of times I did forget Blush

I thought in some places it was fashionable to hang said bag on a tree like a big pooey bauble. Sad

Report
blueberryupsidedown · 19/02/2013 11:54

yes it does make me furious. Someone does that outside our house - there is a small square on the pavement with a small tree and some idiot leaves the bags there. Take them home and put them in your bin!

Our local woods is bins for both poos and normal litter, with big signs on it, but still some idiots leave the bags next to the bin. I mean it, NEXT to the bin. grrrrr. Woof.

Definitely does seem to be a weird sort of fashion. I've seen some bushes adorned with hundreds of the bags. I don't get the mentality behind it either and I'd rather they just left the dogshit which will vanish in a couple of weeks, than put it in a bag that will take longer to biodegrade. Actually, I'd rather they took the shit home with them, or trained their dogs to shit in their garden and not during their walk.

This is my chance to get this something off my chest!

Quite a few years ago now, I walked my parents' dog. The dog did her business after we had passed the bin, but weren't finished the walk, so I left it to the side to collect on the way back. When I came back round, someone else had picked it up Blush

I've never been able to get over the fact that someone thought I was a lazy stinker who left dog shit lying by the path.

Ah, feel better now!

OP, I don't know why anyone would do this on purpose. And the thought of hanging them on trees Envy

Just come back from walking my dog - the poo bags on trees is common round here, or just poo bags on the ground? Might as well just leave the poo there! On the common where I take the dog is a fav place for people to drive there with the dogs, open the door and let dog go! I've started to avoid the area as I've no wish to encounter an unsupervised rottie.

OP - Im with you on this. I have a dog and I also walk a neighbours dog every day. I take a roll of pedal bin liners (my dog tends to do 2!). When I pick the poo up I tie a knot in the top of the bag and carry it with me - no problem. I never put it down to pick up later incase I forget. I dont understand why carrying a bag with poo in is a problem for dog walkers when you can seal the bag up by tying a knot in it! It looks awful. I live in the country with a beautiful river bank and it is littered with plastic bags of poo. Infact, I often pick them up and take them to the bin.

Ah, you've never heard of the dog poo fairy who leaves those little black parcels dangling from the trees?

Don't get me on the subject....always irritated me in my old house, which backed onto a footpath, but I now find myself wishing for her return as the alternative here is to leave a big steaming pile of poo (and god knows what they are feeding their pooches around here, horse doesn't come close) on our verge or drive.

It's something I invariably notice (too late) at the start of the school run.....I have become one of those sad nimbies I used to laugh about. I've even bought a cast iron squatting dog sign with the word "non" emblazoned through it, how sad is that?

This reminds me of a news story I heard a few years ago.

I don't understand it either OP. It's utterly revolting and very lazy. It's their bloody animal, they should carry the bag! Why should I have to go for a walk and see their dog's stinking mess littering the side of the path. As for hanging it on trees...completely disgusting.

My father has dogs and I love them, but there's no way he would leave their shit lying around, in plastic bags or not!

5Foot5 · 19/02/2013 13:33

Oh this infuriates me too. Fair enough I suppose if you intend to pick it up on your way back but I have seen a lot of this where it has been left for ages. I actually think I would prefer to just have the dog poo left as it is as at least it will wash away eventually then draped in a plastic bag from a bush.

There is a river valley walk near us that is very very popular with dog walkers and has a big and obvious dog poo bin near the car park. But still you very often see the bags just left dangling.

I don't suppose we will ever find out why someone would go to the trouble of bagging it and then deliberately leave it dangling from a tree

This actually makes red mist come down over my eyes.

Where I live every wall, gate post, fence post and driveway is festooned with neatly tied black baggies full of festering dog shit.

I dream of finding the perpetrator (surely there cant be more than pne disgusting fucking inconsiderate pig per neighbourhood) and hanging them all over their house.

Angry

And I can categorically tell you it's not people leaving and collecting on return as the bags stay where they are for several days until the hapless homeowner affected must remove them.

People want do do the right thing and pick up their dogs poo, but lets face it, it's not the most pleasant of things if you then have to carry it for the next half an hour or more.

One of the big parks that we go to has a problem with this, but because the main walk that people use is an hour long stroll round a lake, people don't want to spend all that time carrying around a bag of dog shit. Which is what they have to do, because the only bin is in the car park, and it's nearly always full.

I am convinced there would be far less bags hanging from trees if more bins were provided.

I'm not sure its even necessary to leave it lying around even if the intention is to pick it up on the way back. Confused
