Severe Pelvic Renal Dilatation....Help Please!

Not an Aibu. I've posted on here as it gets the most traffic and Im looking for people with experience of this. I posted on the pregnancy thread a few days ago but I've had another scan since and things are a lot worse than we thought.

on Wednesday I had my 20 week scan. The scan showed that my little boy had Pelvic Renal Dilation in his kidneys and he also had a swollen bladder. His left kidney was larger than his right and measured at 10mm. I was referred to the hospital and had a scan on Friday.

On Friday it showed that my little boy has severe Pelvic Renal Dilatation and its getting steadily worse. His left kidney is sevrly enlarged and both of his ureters are swollen and have folded over. He has a major blockage going on so that when he swallows his amniotic fluid hr should be weeing it back out, but because he is blocked up he is swallowing and not weeing it back out so his kidneys and bladder are getting even bigger. If he carries on swallowing his water at this rate his lungs will not form properly.

Has anybody got any experience of this? Did your baby survive? Is there any sort of positive outcome? I have another scan on Monday with specialists. I just need a bit of reasurance or the blunt truth. Is my baby going to die? Or is there some help he can have? Thanks for reading x

Have experience with DS but not severe. He's fine btw but had it spotted in the womb.

I used to be a midwife and didnt want to read and run.

NO ONE in the world can predict or reassure you at this moment. The reason is that without being an expert in fetal medicine and having the benefit of a scan, if not a series of scans, in front of them can they really give you a prognosis.

Please, please dont search the internet for answers... you know SO little at the moment but come Monday you will know so much more and have real information though you still might be in a 'wait and see' situation.

You could have a thousand answers here, some would have good outcomes and some not but I would argue that your little man is unique to you and those babies unique to them. This condition is seen a lot but in different degrees of severity and the subsequent scans are always the most meaningful.

I know Monday feels a million years away but it will come quickly. I hope you have positive news on Monday xxx

My ds1had this but not severe, he is now a perfectly healthy 13yr old. We had further scans in preg and he had antibiotics after birth and scans for a few months until it cleared up.

Do you have AN appointment with a specialist?

Thank you for the quick replies. My appointment on Wednesday is fr another scan but also to see a doctor who specialises in childrens kidneys.

Im trying not to worry but I just can't take my mind off it. He's my first pregnancy and you never expect to hear bad news. Im devastated, I know I shouldn't of read stuff up on the internet but I did and there hasn't been many positive outcomes. Thanks for your replies x

DS2 has similar kidney problems. I don't think quite so severe though. He has bilateral duplex kidneys & a few other bits & bobs are a bit wrong. He had lots of tests in the first few months, an op at 6 months and has been fine ever since.

Docs from Bristol were great. Hope you get a positive result on Monday x
