AIBU?

to expect people to have a little consideration (parking related)

Going by the other parking threads on here IABU!

I live next to a small rural church. It's a kind of cul-de-sac arrangement. Turning left from my house is a dead end and there's a bottleneck arrangement by the church. The only mass there with any real numbers is Sunday morning at 10am. EVERY Sunday there's a few people who block up the bottleneck meaning I can't leave my house until 11am. I've learned to live with it and plan around it but sometimes (like this morning) it REALLY annoys me!! People know there's a house here, it's not hidden or anything, why can't they understand that the people in the house might actually want to leave at some point so it might be nice to not block the road!

People have now gone so I'm off out for a while!

Just have a word with the minister and ask him to mention it in church.

Otherwise park your car a bit further up the road so you can get out.

It's only one day a week.

So they're completely blocking the road to your house? What if there was an emergency and an ambulance or fire engine needed to gt through?!

I'd have a word with the priest at the church. Or if it's the same car every week, you could leave a very politely worded note. "Would Jesus park like this?" Grin

One Sunday, about 20 minutes after the service starts, go to the church and when someone comes over to welcome you, say (very quietly so as not to disturb the service) that you're very sorry and you wouldn't ask if it wasn't frightfully important, but a car is blocking the highway and needs to be moved. Give a description and the registration number. Be scrupulously polite and apologetic throughout, but be firm, don't explain why it's important (why should you?) and don't leave until they do something about it.

I'd be interested to hear what they do....

I love "Would Jesus park like this?". Brilliant!

Maybe if you really want to make a point you should go and interrupt the service and ask people to move cars so you can get out.

Nothing to add but...
did anyone see the TV programme as few years back (same sort of issue).
A lady bought a house in a rural location, her house was behind gates and there was a narrow road to the gates where the church goers parked (legally). But this narrowed the road.
She spoke to the church minister. They started parking in front of the gates.
The church goers thought she was BVU, they'd always parked there and perhaps an element of jealousy that she'd bought the house.

But her DS had a serious illness which meant any time night or day he could be blue lighted to A&E.

One of the churchgoers was asked why they blatantly ignored the requests to not block the gate.
"Oh, we'll pray for the boy in church...." he said.

Well that's ok then. Hmm
