It really annoys me when some selfish sod can't be arsed to park their car in the lines and takes up two spaces in a free public car park. If people who can't be bothered to park their car properly got points on their license and a fine then prehaps they would make more effort.

Not everyone does it to be a lazy tosser who can't park, in one near me anyone with anything bigger than an aygo has too or you'll never get out or in, its no fun getting back to your car with 3 dcs and not being able to get in other than via the boot.

I don't do it because I'm lazy. I do it because I'm heavily pregnant, would massively benefit from using the parent & child parking bays because there is ROOM around the bays meaning if I get some nobber parking next to me as close as they can, I would still be able to get in and out of my car without becoming a contortionist. As it is you are only allowed to use those bays if you actually have children, not a fiendishly large unborn child making it very difficult to squeeze into gaps.
I tend to park far over these days to ensure I can get in and out of my car, rather than ending up stranded like a whale - beached is the term, I believe...

Nope, if you have a silly big car and you deliberately park accross two places you should get special wanker points. 5 points and you should have to catch the bus for 3 months.
These are average parking spaces everyone else parks in fine.

It would be a brave brave soul to tackle a heavily pregnant woman using a p&c space I used one once when I was shattered at 36 weeks and the car park was full except for about give minutes away from the store

If someone can't park a car then maybe they should be forced to drive around in a lawnmover or a fiat uno until they can prove they can park a large car.

Pregnant women should only get exemption if they are in the third trimester expecting twins or have severe SPD (or some other really nasty conditon). Prehaps there needs to be temporary disabled badges for women with really awful pregnancies that expire two weeks after their due date. Such people could be allowed to park in disabled spaces.

There are plenty of people with children and pregnant who manage to park large cars with no problem. Being pregnant or having small children is not an excuse for shit parking.

In our town, people who park over the lines already do get fined. The problem is enforcement which evitably means that traffic wardens need to be employed.

Employing traffic wardens leads to the end of free car parks. Some of the car parks in town allow you to park free for an hour which seems to be a good compromise. The prospect of being fined does not deter people so may be a tougher punishment is needed for repeat offenders.

Parking well is a matter of consideration. Lots of people have issues and taking up two places may mean that someone else has an unnecessary long walk. My daughter was late for a music lesson because we had problems parking. She has little legs and its unfair that she had a long walk in the ice because some could not be arsed to park properly.

Its all very well about making excuses of being pregnant, having small children or even a c-section, but plenty of other people have worse problems. For most women being pregnant is not an illness and does not made them an invalid.

Dawndonna, why would you object to someone with severe SPD having a disabled badge? They are disabled well beyond the levels of normal pregnancy. The average pregnant woman does not have an excuse. Many pregnant women go to work without a problem and easily can get in out of a car.

Yeah the first thing I thought was that people might have been forced to park that way by whoever was there before them... But for another perspective, can you understand that some people are new and inexperienced drivers? I've just passed my test very recently. I can reverse park because that's part of the test but I dread parking in bays at the supermarket and am utterly crap at it. Several times I've ended up over two spaces through lack of ability to do any better, though I hasten to add I have always corrected it. I think this should be part of driving tests tbh. I feel for the people who have to wait for me to park up but I just cannot do it with any flair yet, I wish I could as its embarrassing. I don't think I deserve points on my license though.

Why the @ temp disabled badges? In the US (Florida at least) you can get one if you have had surgery or are heavily pregnant or whatever for a few weeks, and then they expire.

I have a huge 7 seater (four DC) and do not park in P&C spaces, I chose to park in a space away from the store where I can reverse into or drive into I.e. I don't need to reverse back out of.

What I hate is when I do this and come bak and some idiot has raked right next to me leaving me about 6 inches at one side despite there being other spaces.

One of the best things about the US is valet parking- until it becomes comminplace here, I shall continue to park across 2 spaces in a far flung bit if the car park. I have a 4x4 and like lots of room !
