My area. South east. 3 forecasts for yesterday, 3 different stations.

1. Heavy snow from 11am through til eve.
   
2. Heavy snow 12 - 6pm
   
3. Light snow showers on and off.
   

Only the 3rd was right. Schools closed, panic buying everywhere. None necessary. One could drive (carefully) throughout the day.

Today we have a prediction of cloud all day. Another of snow showers all day.

Met office are the worst.

I watched the BBC forecaster tell me it wouldn't snow today, then I looked out the window - I'm not sure what the white bits are if not snow.

I know it's not possible to precisely predict but there seems to be so much guessing!

We're in the south east too and the weather prediction on my Iphone has been correct. I didn't believe we'd have snow yesterday but it started at 8.00am and carried on all through the day and stopped at about 8pm.

According to most weather reports it has been snowing here since yesterday evening. Other than a few snow flakes we have had nothing.

We are better off just looking up at the sky and deciding for ourselves I think. But the great met office has been totally shit for my area. You get the general met office site then put postcode in, and I should be under heavy snow at the moment. Not even a flake out there. Won't rely on them again! I know it is difficult to predict but ranges from no snow to heavy snow at the same time in the same area, is all a bit pointless!

met office says we just have cloud until mid day tomorrow but there is plenty of white stuff falling from the skies at the moment - metcheck seems to be the most accurate at the moment

Well, go to to say met office predictions for Yorkshire coast have been bang on,even to the point of heavy snow falling at the exact time it predicted! Its not always right,though!

Met office were spot on for our predictions. Forecasting snow isn't exactly easy, its really hard to know how far a front will reach, how fast moving it is affects how much snow falls, along with so many other factors. The met office do their best to give us advance warning of these events for which we should be glad, but they don't actually have a crystal ball.

the best weather indicator is to look out your window, we were supposed to get a few cm of snow last night I think we got 5 flakes

My DH used to have a reasonably senior position within one of the big 6 energy suppliers. Companies such as these who need accurate weather forecasting in order to anticipate demamd are charged extortionate amounts for an accurate forecast. It seems it is entirely possible to forecast weather accurately, but with companies willing to pay big bucks for this information why would they then give it away for free after every news bulletin? As with everything in life, it boils down to money and I suspect all our weather forecasts will be staying intentionally vague as a result

I have our local weather station on facebook they are usually spot on I am sure it is a little geeky man with his own weather station in his back garden
