AIBU?

Is it just me or is that Disneyland Ad designed to make you feel like an utter bastard for not taking your children there?

This is meant to be lighthearted but no other advert for anything makes me feel this way. Esp if you watch it with your children present; The lifting, swelling, string music and the look of joy and glee on the children's faces and smug contentment of the parents. To top it off it's a "thank-you" to all those wonderful families who let Disneyland share in their celebrations at the time they told their children of this holiday. Surely they are actors?

Although I completely see why you would want to go there and maybe it is a nice family break this advert irritates the hell out of me. It's more that just presenting an attractive product or aspiration, it makes you feel..bad somehow for not doing something amazing for your children, and Disneyland is very, very pricey.

Maybe IABU? - post Chrstmas burn-out Grin

YANBU, but thankfully my DC would die rather than go to Disneyland and I would hate to take him so it's win win Grin

The ones I have heard on radio make it sound like it is practically free. Reality - when I looked at pricing - is very, very far from that.

It is exactly designed to make you feel shot and its also a complete and utter lie and falsehood.

Not been there myself but friends tell me it's hours of queues, very short rides, hideously expensive food and souvenirs, a huge amount of fuss and expense and a very long stressful day.

Be thankful that you have seen through it and saved your children from massive disappointment.

Xmas Grin

You know you live in an affluent area when you go to the cinema, the Disneyland ad comes on and the whispered ripple goes around the theatre

...."I've been there!".

Shit not shot. The autocorrect is sharper than me.

It's schmaltzy yes but no worse than the toy adverts in the run up to Christmas?

I'd love to take DS to the "Cars" bit/section (?) though I think I'd get just as much pleasure! Bought him the Cars DVD for Christmas and I think I've watched it more than him Blush

Mine too funnys
never expressed a desire to go , and it is the last place on earth I would go.

Ad irritates me with simpering kids. I think there should be another ad with children being told they're not goingGrin
Commercialised crap. Magic my arse.

Pantofino my nephew was extremely upset his mum wouldn't take him - he didn't get it as the advert said kids go free so he couldn't see the issue!

I have been with DS and we had a wonderful time. Smile
He did not get in free. Hmm

My dc actually tell me they go free!

I tell them I can't afford the therapy I'd need afterwards Grin

There was a thread a while back where the mum had done the big reveal and the kids were very meh about it. She was upset that it wasn't like the ads.

Lord no!

Bet the kids are all actors.

Of course it is. Just feel a soupcon of smug pride that you have resisted the hype. You would have to pay ME a considerable sum of money to go to Disneyland. I have told my dc that if they are so keen to go they can go when they are grown up or have children of their own.

They are not actors, all real families my friend is in it :)

They are not actors. OFCOM and the Advertising Standards Committee does not allow you to say people are 'real' if they are not. Not on the telly and not is adverts.

I don't think it's designed to make you feel shit, it's aimed at making you think you'd feel great if you went.

I know it does make lots of people feel shit though, this isn't the first time I've seen it said on here, but I think people feel shit about anything they would love to give their children but can't. Disney just has a bigger effect because its I expensive and therefore so far out of reach for many.

I'm taking my dd to DisneyWorld in the summer! I did a treasure hunt for the big reveal in Christmas Morning - it was anything but meh, Disney ad worthy for sure!

So meh to all you haters Wink

The adverts are supposed to create this feeling that Disneyland is the ultimate place to go, as a child, ever. That childhood isn't complete without it but that it's a once-in-a-lifetime special event.

I think some people really buy into this. When I told my stepmum I wanted 3 or more children she looked utterly bemused and said "But how will you afford to take them to Disneyland?!"

What was funny was that me, my sister and XP all turned around and said, in unison, "I've never been to Disneyland and I'm fine!" Grin

I really could not care less.

What you need is a messy divorce and a very competitive ex who wants to buy his DC's love. Grin He and the other woman are taking my 3 and her DS to Florida in the summer. So my DC get to go and I don't have to go or pay. I'm fucking delighted. I hope the kids enjoy it, luckily they see through his motives, but are savvy enough to say, yes please!

Yep that pretty much sums up my day there but my boys had a ball!! Thankfully we were already driving in France on holiday and stopped off on the way home so hadnt made any special effort to go, 1 day was enough for me!

That's what adverts are FOR.

All adverts are designed to make you feel bad if you do not buy the thing they are advertising, and/or to make you think that you will feel good if you do buy the thing they are advertising.

Every single one of them.

Oh Ellen that sounds like a win-win for you! And you get the chance to have a child free holiday yourself Grin

Child free holiday, hmm, sounds good, but will probably end up decorating the kitchen. I hate anything Disney, not sure why, but the DC will love it, I'm sure.

To be fair, taking children to Florida is an amazing holiday for them. My dc went four years ago, they have been to a different country nearly every year of their lives, and Florida is the holiday they remember the most and look back on with the most affection. I'd love to have the money to take them again while they are young teenagers.
