Oh the hell :( I feel dreadful and have done since Saturday morning. At least the projectile vomiting has stopped.

This is the second bout of this I've had in three years and it's hideous.

I just want to ring up the NHS Choices website and tell them that no, most people don't get over this in a couple of days.

Anyone else poorly today? Let's feel sorry for ourselves together :( = puke.

I had it a few years ago and it knocked me off my feet for ages. I'd say it was 2 weeks before I felt normal again.

You have my sympathy Noro is hideous, it's the worst I've ever felt. I had it 3 times when I was a student nurse., thankfully never since I seemed to have built up an immunity. The puking and pooing stage does tend to be over with fairly quickly, but yes stating a "full recovery" seems harsh, it'll knock you for six really.

I agree, I'm 39 weeks pregnant and had it twice in the last 6 weeks. There was no way I was going to infect friends or family so quarantined us for 4 days after, no trips to the shops for DH etc. if people did this I'm sure it would lessen the spread.

The symptoms of Norovirous I.e vomiting & diarrhoea can clear after a couple of days, but you still need 48 hours after the last episode to go back to work etc.

I suspect whoever says differently has never had it. It's bloody awful and you have to get over the extreme fatigue afterwards.

I had it last week and it lasted a day. Pretty dramatic but only short lived though I did feel tired and slow the next day. Ds was the same.

Another moan, I just wish people who were ill and of course knew would stay away from pregnant women. I've told people to stay away if they are but for some bizarre fucking resin they still come, and after being in the house an hour tell me they were sick the day before etc been really I'll but feel a bit better today, it's no fun looking after a two year old who catches it as well. It's really done my head in.

Agro - we have relatives quite often coming to visit the patients on hospital wards with it. We have to tell them to leave all the time. Within a few hours, the staff and patients go down like flies. The ward's are closed to New admissions then.

Year after year this happens. Some people never learn or they don't care.

Proper norovirus, YANBU. I didn't eat for a clear week, ate gingerly for the rest of the month, and then mc.

Even sick bugs that lay you out for 24h tend to make you feeble and restrict your diet for a week afterwards.

Maybe "stop shitting through the eye of a needle and puking through your nose" stops within 48h, but that isn't a full recovery. If you are fully recovered within that timescale, then what you had was either ADodgyKebab or TooMuchBeer.

The pooing and puking often clear up after a couple of days. DD, DS and I have all had it. I started vomiting last Monday and stopped by Wednesday. I have only just started eating again, feel nauseous still and have stomach cramps after eating. I've lost 8lbs and feel very drained with no appetite to speak of.

The dc are only just starting to have a bit of colour again and have just started eating proper meals again.

I was most annoyed to hear from dd's friend's Mum on Friday. She was the first in our group of acquaintances to have it. Only she kept quiet and after a night of vomiting, brought her ds to a party anyway and "tried not to breathe on anybody". And then a day later when her ds started with it, she sent him to school anyway (sent home within an hour). Nearly the whole class has come down with it, plus siblings, parents and in 2 cases have ended up in hospital (one young baby, one parent who is ill anyway and has a compromised immune system).

depends on your immune system surely... I had it and was puking/shitting for approx 24 hours. I felt band new after 48 hours. Probably still infectious though?

My dd also recovers incredibly quickly from everything

I think we have just started using the term norovirus to describe any old stomach bug, when it isn't. It is a separate, more serious illness, which can leave you feeling queer for a long time.

Bit like how people mix up a bad cold and flu.

Or being rather precious over tidiness and OCD.

It has become a sort of shorthand and not everyone who spends a day puking this winter will have had norovirus.

I suppose this time is an improvement on last time. Last time I was delirious, didn't get out of bed for a whole week (other than to go to the bathroom) lost a stone and couldn't eat for a fortnight.

This isn't a patch on that really, but I still feel utterly shite :(

We have all just had it. It is foul.

I stopped vomiting after about 36 hours but had hurt all around my stomach and ribs from the force of it and felt very weak for several days afterward.
I was up and about -able to do stuff but kept lying down in between. I didn't leve the house as I didn't want to spread it.
I kept DD at home for three days after the vomiting stopped as she was so washed out.

norovirus is just 'the winter vomitting bug'

nearly no-one is swabbed for culture and sensitivity, so its impossible to know whether it is norovirus or another virus causing V&D

but it is not more serious than other viruses, just the most common; which is why people commonly refer to V&D in the winter as norovirus

i couldnt get out of bed for the 24 hours i was ill; i puked and shat where i lay. But still fully better after 48 hours. Depends on your general state of run-downness and your immune system

I was on dry cream crackers for a fortnight when I had it and I lost 10lb in the first two days. DH was mostly recovered within about four or five days but not properly right for another week after that and still has lactose intolerance issues. DS was one at the time and was sprinting round the house happy as larry within twelve hours.

GE is a term for irritated or inflamed GT; it can be caused by norovirus/another virus/something entirely different...

TakeMyEyes - that's just incredible. What on earth is the mentality behind it, is it just ignorance that they are still contagious? Soldiering on? If you tell them to leave then I'm guessing they are showing symptoms! Why would you go to a hospital with already very sick people and risk their health further and my goodness....end up closing an entire ward.

It'll happen when I have the newborn as well, I've told DH no one is allowed for the first weeks, they just don't listen. I've already experienced the hell of a newborn with a stinking cold and will not repeat it! Plus the fact I've been so ill thanks to this sort of behaviour has made me resolute.

Dd had this 2 weeks ago. Started Sunday evening and it was 48 hours of puke and poo followed by 5 days of fatigue and a restricted diet. She passed it on to me - followed the same pattern.
That was a fun week!

YANBU. This went through our family during the October half-term (always a school holiday) . DS1 (15) was poorly for a week, DH for about 3/4 days and DD (15 months) for almost 3 weeks!

D&V is over quite quickly but it takes me a good week to want to/be able to eat properly again, and in the meantime I feel exhausted and very low on energy. A couple of days is a very very optimistic estimate.

I had the nori virus (and was swabbed for it due to being in hospital at the time). Bloody horrendous, and leaves you weak and unwell for quite a while. The D&V do tend to stop after 48/72hours but I didn't feel right for quite some time after.

Also there are many strains of norovirus hence why most D&V bugs are classed as the norovirus if it's this time of year.
