Stop referring to my DH as 'hubby'.
Stop referring to my DD as 'bubs'.

Side note: Learn to put apostrophes and commas in the right place.

I live in the land of "bubs" - Australia.

Where people "pass", instead of "die".

They "battle" against cancer instead of "dying of".

Hate the mealy-mouthed, sentimental shite of it all.

Adults saying "tummy" yuk.

I work with a woman who says "pwease."

One day I am going to punch here in the face.

I hate 'battle' against cancer. It's like you've done something wrong when you lose. I didn't realise that was an australianism. Having lost two members of my family to cancer, I know that you suffer from cancer, you don't battle it.

I know someone who says "likkle" and I'm going to punch her face in soon too Grin

but it just so funny... when you see a rational adult, disolve into fluffy speak!

We should set up a new MN reponse 'Did you mean to be so funny?'

I like the character in 'Miranda' that can't open her gob without fluff issuing forth.. 'tremendulendo!..... but at least she's meant to be funny :) Anyone going on about 'Chrimbo' can be ritually disembowelled as far as I'm concerned.

Bubs and bubba really pisses me off!

I have one friend (who I love dearly) who uses the full shebang. Her new daughter is her 'ickle bubs', her son who is the same age as my DD is her "ickle prince/man" and once put a request to some friends on her fb page ending in "pwetty pwease". Seriously, she's a lovely woman but I had to hide her updates on fb in the end as I am far too fond of her to read the shite she puts there!

Sad for you tryingtoleave; it's not peculiar to Australia, but endemic down under. The boldness of UK obituaries, particularly those in the Guardian is a tonic.

YES YES! My DM died of cancer aged 52. The word 'battle' or 'won the fight against cancer' annoys me. Mum died because they discovered the cancer too late. She didn't just give up and not bother to 'fight'. I nursed my mum at home while she died a painful horrible death from cancer.

Anyway, sorry!

OP, you are not being unreasonable. Can't stand bubs and bubba and ickle etc. Yuk!

See now I'm worried, DDs get called "Baba" by DH, but it's a Bengali thing (meaning Dads girl), but what if he meets a MNer that thinks he's being all:

"awww Ickle baba"

He'll get punched in the face Shock

YANBU btw cultural differences taken into account :)

Could we also put a blanket ban on 'issues'? They're just fluffy problems trying to sound more important than they are. No, you're not 'addressing your issues', you're dealing with a problem...

Football managers always "hit back" at any criticism (usually with a bland, non-violent sentence)

I use fluffy speak when I talk to my dogs and then reply to myself from them in same fluffiness.

Me: Ooh you are such a chunky wunky, fluffy bear and Mommy loves you so much
Me to me in 'dog voice' : Yes I am a lovely chunky wunky and I love you too mummy.

No wonder I don't have many friends......

I use baba to my daughter (teenager) it's Irish for baby - sorry if spelled wrong to anyone who knows. I think it's one of those words that have travelled the world and show we all started off speaking the same language (half heard programme on R4). But agree it's for home use only and said with irony to anyone over six
