AIBU?

To think that Currys/PcWorld is shit

I am furious with Currys and really don't think I'm being unreasonable!

My chest freezer died Wednesday 7th Nov - one of these things, had had it a few years.
So I went to Currys to buy a new one. It was to be delivered on Saturday 10th Nov - It came when expected but it was damaged (it had a big dent on the front and was filthy). Ok, again one of these things.
Got in touch with Currys, several frustrating phone calls later, I would have to phone back on Monday as the freezer manufacturer is closed at the weekends and as the freezer comes direct from the manufacturer Currys need to get a returns number from them before we can do anything.

Monday comes - Phone Currys get it sorted for damaged freezer to be collected and new freezer to be delivered on Weds 14th Nov.

Wednesday comes - New freezer comes and this one has a bigger dent on it, the coil has also come through the back panel of the freezer and it is completely filthy too.
Phone Currys again - another frustrating phone call - but arrange for damaged freezer to be collected and another new one to be delivered on Fri 16th Nov.

Friday comes - New freezer delivered - This one is clean and no dents! But the bloody front electrical panel is hanging off and no it won't simply clip back in!!!

I now have to wait till Monday as the freezer manufacturer is closed at the weekend and we can't get a returns number till they open so can't organise anything.

I am furious with Currys. All I want is for a new freezer that isn't damaged or bloody filthy and works. I have had to wait in for days for damaged freezers to arrive and all I've had from them is that they have refunded my original delivery fee.
I've also had to arrange for my Dad to come up twice to move the freezer to get the serial number off the back of it (I can't do it as I have arthritis and am on crutches) so that we can get a returns number from the manufacturer.

I don't suppose anyone has an email address for someone really high up in Currys to help sort this do they?

Currys is crap.
I bought a new laptop from them in the shop and when I got home I discovered there was no battery in it.
As town for me is 60 miles away I phoned their customer helpline to be told that they couldn't send one out and I'd have to go back to the store and refused to give me the phone number.
I think they'll go the way of Comet and I can't wait.
Bastards.

I would tell them I wanted a refund as their customer service is rubbish, and as there have been problems with all of the items delivered you don't feel that you can rely on receiving a freezer that is fit for purpose (ie unseen damage).

Take your money elsewhere.

Currys are crap and bloody liars.

Your contract is nothing to do with the freezer manufacturer, your contract is with Currys. The email is here and in the meantime look at the Tading Standards site too.

YANBU. And their product knowledge is appalling. We were in there last Sunday half an hour before closing and the staff were stood about going 'not long to go now'. Hmm

Are you my neighbour?

I have lost count of how many times she has knocekd my door asking if I have some room in my freezer as she is getting a new freezer delivered. And EACH time it is dented. And guess what? From Currys.

She said she knew what the problem was though. They have to unpack it in the van, as health and safety laws now prohibit them from using sharp objects at the customers house. So the freezers are unwrapped on the van, or even before leaving the warehouse(!) before it is brought into the customers house.

Thank you all for your replies

It makes me feel a little better that it isn't just me who is having problems with them - but sad too that others are.

thank you hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman for the links to the ceo email address and to trading standards.

NotQuintAtAllOhNo - Don't think I'm your neighbour - as I haven't given my neighbour any frozen stuff (my Mum has it all!) - but I wonder if it's a Norfrost chest freezer she's getting too?

Intersting - the delivery guys are unpacking it at my door. I've been told that they can't unpack it before delivering it to check for damage as then it could be damaged in transit.

Curry's is shit.

I just posted on VIX's rant thread about the horrible, rude shop assistant who pushed my DS and me out of the way of the I-Pads we were looking at because she wanted to serve a man.

Fuckers.

I've just had a manager from Currys on the phone, and we have a new freezer coming on Wednesday - they are going to unpack it at the manufacturer and check it before it comes to me. - So am a little hopeful at getting an undamaged freezer at last.

I would love to just get my money back on the freezer but this one fits in the gap that I have and short of knocking down a chimney breast (!) it's the only one that will.

Hi all,

Currys PC World have been in touch with us after spotting this thread.
They have asked that we post this up on their behalf:

"On behalf of Currys PC World I would like to apologise for the service you
have received.

"It is disappointing to hear of the inconvenience you have encountered as a
result of failed deliveries and we have made the relevant senior managers aware of the mistakes you have highlighted.

"I have been able to locate your complaint details and I will be keeping an
eye on your order to try and ensure that all goes smoothly with your delivery on Wednesday.

"Should you wish to get in touch with us directly, please email [email protected] and I will be happy to help. As I will be working until 8pm on Wednesday I will call to check on how the visit went.

Many thanks

Katherine"

YABU purely on the grounds that they have a shiatzu massage chair that I take advantage of everytime I am in the vicinity for at least 20 minutes

Their delivery system is a bit rubbish IMO, to get the cheaper or free delivery you have to wait forever, if you want it reasonably fast you pay a rip off fee.

I thoroughly recommend Appliances online

Brilliant customer service, good range of stock and very flexible with deliveries.

Report
AmberLeaf · 20/11/2012 16:56

Im sad about Comet too.

Had always used Comet for big appliances, only used Appliances online by chance as they could deliver exactly what I wanted quicker very recently.

Report
VoiceofUnreason · 20/11/2012 16:59

I stopped using Comet years ago because they were overpriced and so objectionable when trying to foist extended warranties on you.

I stopped using Curry's two years ago because I'd find a product on the shelves, in the shop, but never actually in stock. So take it off the flipping shelves until you have it back again.

I only use a local independent retailer now. Their prices and delivery are reasonable and they have excellent knowledge.

Currys are absolute bobbins. I had a thread about their appalling customer service at the start of October. It took 2 hours(!) of phone calls for them to admit that they had never had any intention of providing the installation service I paid for.

I never heard back from the CEO when I emailed him (or his complaints people). They are absolutely shockingly bad. I would never buy from them again.

Melpomene · 20/11/2012 17:14

YANBU. We bought a dishwasher from them and paid extra to have it installed but the guys that delivered it couldn't instal it. They told me that if I phoned up the installation charge would be refunded. I phoned up and was told I would have to come into the shop to get the refund. Then when we visited the shop we had trouble getting in because they had a metal gate thing inside the door to the shop which was supposed to open automatically, but was stuck shut. After standing around in the doorway for a few minutes in a crowd of people, we literally crawled under the metal gate and then had to Q for 20 minutes before getting our refund. The chap in front if us in the Q was complaining about a dented dishwasher.

Thankyou Rebecca from MNHQ for posting the message from Currys.

I have had a call from Katherine at Curys appologising - Thankyou.

I shall refrain from further comment until the new freezer arrives. Which is supposed to be before 5pm today.

Trazzletoes I like the use of 'bobbins' as an insult Grin

AmberLeaf Thankyou for the name of Appliances online

It's ridiculous how some companies treat their customers - All I want is the goods or services I've paid for in a timely manner

Why companies can't just get it right is a mystery to me. I used to work for a different electrical retailer and this kind ofstuff happened all the time.

I haven't set foot in the door of Currys for 15 years.

I ought a matsui (own brand ) stereo which nearly a year later died, the receipt was on shiny paper and the ink had faded and was unreadable. They wouldn't do anything as they said I couldn't prove I'd bought the stereo from them. Really? When I pointed out it was their own brand they said it could be more than a year old. So I found a bank statement, but they said it could be for a different product.

I went back several times and in the end went in on a busy Saturday and very loudly started telling everyone that they were refusing to refund me for faulty goods. Got my money back.

As I left the store another customer literally had his hands round the managers throat, holding him off the ground and throttling him over a freezer refund!
