Just a thought Grin

But if we are struggling as a Country, financially, as a Country

Why don't the Royal family contribute and sell their holiday homes and put they money back in the economy?

It is her own private estate so you are being very unreasonable. In fact why should she have to sell anything full stop. We are struggling because of the profligacy by the labour loons and the global credit crisis. Not the royal families doing so why should they have to bail you out?

That would be a teensy drop in the ocean!

As for her "getting off her arse" it's not like she sits around all day watching Jeremy Kyle and smoking fags.

Balmoral is owned by the Queen and is not a UK asset. Are you volunteering to sell your own house to bail out the economy too?

Ask the politicans to give away some of their wealth, they have brought the country into this, not the Queen!

How much does it cost to run per annus spongerabilis?

Sarcalogos · 29/05/2012 14:47

Ok, but only if you sell your house and car as well. After all you could manage in a flat/with no car and it'd help the economy (you could donate the proceeds to the state).

Oh, that's ludicrous isn't it. ...

And not to mention THE BANKERS!!!!

And what about the hundreds of staff who are employed there.. should they all lose their jobs then... Hmm

I would sell my house and all its contents to help Baroness Warsi get the expenses money she so richly deserves.

My family live v near balmoral, I grew up a few miles away. I'm pretty sure that "royal deeside" as it's proud to be known, would be a bit upset if it could no longer call itself that any more. I'm also pretty sure that the royal presence at the balmoral estate (which is large and includes far more than just the castle) brings in quite a lot in terms of tourism and local employment. The nearby town of ballater also cashes in as they have a museum at the train station queen Victoria used to arrive at, and several shops bear signs showing that they are patronised by the queen. So hopefully the queen won't just flog the place, as it would be fairly bad for the local community.

sorry MamaMaissaura I didn't mean to offend anyone

It just seems nuts that if we have huge estates that sit and do nothing whilst the country is skint is a bit wrong

Actually it is beginning to sound like a pretty good job creation scheme.

Please read my post op. The estate does Not just sit and do nothing.

YABU. As another poster said, get the stooopid politicians to hand their "second" properties over.

THey don't sit and do nothing though Blue

They generate huge amounts of income for the surrounding area's and provide jobs for the community.

But the estates don't sit and do nothing. Balmoral generates a huge amount of money from tourists for both the estate and the local villages and area. I bet all the people who work there would be delighted to hear you say it does nothing.

The only bill that costs the state anything for the royal family is the security bill because she is Head of State and if he had some other person as HoS we'd still be paying that same security bill. Look at how much Sarkozy cost the French State and then you'll realise how much of a bargain HM is. It is not her fault that those who would like to attack the state have moved on in there technological ability that means security costs have increased greatly.

Piffpaffpoff- I know several people who work there who would indeed be most offended at that statement.

But they never "sit and do nothing", they are staffed at all times, which keeps people in a job. And as said, they generate a huge amount of tourism for the local areas.

There's a very good reason why you don't sell assets (which you can only sell once) to deal with a structural deficit (which happens every year).
