AIBU?

to not want to wear a flippin' teacosy on my head, even for charity?

Ventured into White Stuff today (I know, I know).

I don't care if it's hilarious or that Jo Wood's doing it Hmm - I find it galling enough that I'm too old for Top Shop these days, without being persuaded by some nauseatingly 'kooky' shop assistant to wear a tea cosy on my head for charidee.

'But you'll qualify for a 10% discount' giggles aforementioned Juliette Lewis-a-like...

Ah, so not only do I get to look like a tit, but I'm also demonstrating to everyone else in the shop that I'm so tight, I'll humiliate myself for the sake of a fiver.

Am I just being a grouchy old bag? Or were they trying just a bit too hard to be original?

"so tight, I'll humiliate myself for the sake of a fiver"

Or so sensible that you could make a saving for a mere 10 seconds of discomfort?

Just don't do it if you don't want.

You're right, of course Wink. I'm not a great lover of shopping at the best of times and have a bit of a thing about enforced jollity, so this just made me cringe and decide to take my arse off somewhere I could mooch about in peace.

Having pondered, I have concluded that yes, I am that scabby thrifty.

Just pray they don't have photographers for their follow-up website snaps :)

It's not too late, you can email in your own photo of you 'looking silly' to nab the discount. Grin

Wouldn't really be in the spirit of the thing to upload a pic of myself with 'b*gger off' embroidered on bunting above my head. Would it?

I wore the tea cosy on my head today and I wasn't even buying anything! I thought the assistants looked so cool I wanted to join in. Not really, I did it so that my lovely, but very shy friend could get the 10% off. I've no shame, a high threshold for embarrassment though.

Ah PommePoire, if only you'd been there when I needed you!

I feel the assistants in my branch were cheating somewhat, as there were all sporting the stripy, knitted, suspiciously bobbly-hat looking variety. Whereas if they'd really been trying, they should have been wearing some gigantic padded monstrosity in chintz, just like my mum's.
