AIBU?

to "keep" namechanging?

was just telling DH that I name changed this afternoon but couldn't remember what I'd changed it to Smile.

He can't understand why I keep changing names. Apparently, "you're not supposed to as no one will be able to follow your threads" Hmm

I'm fairly new to forums in general with about 3/4 weeks on Netmums. In that time I've changed my nickname 4 times.

If you're wondering why, it's partly because I was worried family could pick up my threads if they read enough of them, but also because I just didn't like the last one.

So what's the verdict, am I breaking some sort of unspoken forum rule?

This is Mumsnet not Netmums Shock

But other than that change your name as often as you like or not all. Some posters like the anonymity of regular name changes. Some like to keep their name to build up a rapport with other posters. It's entirely up to yourself.

Blush

Good grief. And after all the controversy re netmums I've read on here.

Darn it. Now I will have to namechange just so I don't get lynched Grin

I always think that netmums is abit weird in that you're meant to use your real name and so many people post pictures of themselves and kids. It's a nice site but I really wouldn't want anyone from a forum to identify me (not that I have anything to hide, of course!)

I agree. I love the anonymity on here. I'm pretty sure I was able to identify a friend on there from conversations we'd had which I then read online.

netmums don't allow name changes anyway - I got booted out when I did it!

Feel free to change as many times as you like; you may be perpetually treated like a newbie all the time, but that's no big deal really :)

I name change every time I feel I may have given away more about myself than I am comfortable with. Don't want real life tracking me down.

Oh, and also I have name changed when I inadvertently offended someone and my apology fell onto stony ground.

YANBU. I namechange every now and then to keep on top of privacy and anonymity.

Always find it funny when someone namechanges then tells everyone they have!

Defeats the object surely.
