To think ugly betty isnt ugly

just seen trailer for ugly betty on tv and she isnt ugly.
Does wearing spectacles and having braces on your teeth make you ugly
am I missing something?

yes, you are. that show's been finished for nearly a year and it's about 6 years old.

Yanbu, much as I love that show I find it slightly offensive that glasses and braces make someone ugly. I didn't know it had finished, I'm guessing in the end she got contact lenses, braces off and a haircut and was suddenly beautiful?!

It's for the final season.

And the point is that as she works in the superficial skinny-minny world of fashion, to those people she is ugly.

Of course by the end of the series she'll have had the braces removed, changed glasses for contacts and grown a fashion sense and will be accepted.

She is far from ugly

I think the producers of the show should be sued under the trade descriptions act

surley they could get an ugly bird for the part if they wanted

The movies do it all the friggin time Jason.

Cast a pretty size 6 actress and shove specs on her, add baggy clothes and a smidgen of shyness and TaDa they're a geek.

Throw in a jock who laughs at said geek girl and would never dream of dating her only to fall madly in love with her (apparently so far invisible) beauty once she removes specs/takes hair out of bun/wears a tight dress.

It's Hollywood formula innit.

Well it isn't as though they could use an actual ugly person is it? I mean people could be offended if a slightly unattractive woman was cast in a main role. My god, what a terrifying thought!

The original (and best) Ugly Betty was Colombian, was significantly uglier simplementenovelas.blogspot.com/2009/02/las-telenovela-colombiana-yo-soy-betty.html but obviously the American execs didn't think that would sell too well.

The whole point/ 'joke' is that Betty is absolutely lovely, unlike her shallow workmates who are ugly to their core.

Or at least that was the point/ joke before however many series had Betty tarted up and all the shallow people show how nice they are really.

Anybody who thinks that braces and tank tops make a person ugly should have their television removed from them and banned from enjoying popular entertainment, yet as others said it's the oldest comedy cliche in the book.

Anybody else remember 'plain Jane superbrain' from Neighbours who was revealed to be model material when she put a bikini on?
