I recently had to contact the supplier of my Mutsy pushchair as part of the plastic snapped which has made it not possible to use. As it is out of warranty they said all I could do was to buy a new frame, which though I thought unfair, I immediately agreed to it. They stupidly sent me the wrong frame and so I have now had to drive some miles to try to sort out. Only to be told that I now also need to spend out yet again and buy a new cover! No good will gesture of any description offered regardless of it being their mistake and that I also pointed out the pushchair has barely seen 18months of usage just a "it's plastic, plastic breaks, what do you want me to do about it?". A refund please I answer, but lost out even more than just the mileage and time off work as they refuse to refund the £8 p&p! I know it's only £8, but I'd rather give it to charity than someone who finds it acceptable for a pushchair to just be able to break!!! ???

You are covered by the Sale of Goods act. Also <a class="break-all" href="http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">here

The retailer (NOT the manufacturer) has a responsibility to replace or repair any item (including pushchairs) sold within a reasonable period (usually agreed to be 6 years) of sale regardless of any warranty.

Pay for nothing- take it back to the shop and tell them they have a legal responsibility to repair or replace your pushchair.

My partner spoke to them today and explained, just regarding the issue with the P&P he said he'd been in contact with TS, and she told him not to threaten him with it she "knows how to play it"!!! Sick hey!!!

To add to this - and it might not help you now - always buy your larger more long-use baby items from either John Lewis or Mothercare, particularly if you have one near you.

They are both good at replacing or repairing, out of warranty, under the sale of goods act, and if you buy online its very easy to go back and find proof of purchase, even years later. So preferably buy online from either of these two and you'll never have a problem.

I bought my stairgates from Mothercare, both broke (the roller blind type) and they are a (now) £90 stairgate (though were more like £60 when I got them). Both were replaced with just proof of purchase.

Had a problem with my Prioryfix Car Seat (Maxi Cosi) who are a nightmare to deal with but of course Mothercare sorted it for me and even offered to lend me a spare car seat (except I already had a spare so didn't need it).

John Lewis baby monitor broke after being squashed in luggage on a long haul flight randomly and they replaced it, sent a courier to pick it up and drop off a new one at the same time with no exchange of monies, just had to wait in 3 hours no big deal.

Etc.

Yep, your right. Only you try and help out the indepent shops to keep them going and they just stab you in the back! Like I said, I was quite happy to pay for the replacement which I did while it stood as just the seat unit, but then to be told another £50 needed to replace the cover as it doesn't fit the newer style is a joke! Especially when my seat unit was in a better state than the replacement and my cover is literally still like brand new! Won't be needing the bigger baby essentials in this life time, but will definitely pass that information on to every and anyone I ever meet!!!
