AIBU?

to have summer holiday guilt?

I think I am, but I feel guilty that I am not doing enough with dd (5) during the hols.

Today we have done very little - she has played on computer and played with toys, and I have read my book and pottered about. We have had a week in Cornwall and various days out so far, and Grandma is coming to stay next week, but I feel really guilty when a day passes without doing anything. Obviously not helped by her asking "what are we going to do today?" or "can we go somewhere today?".

I know I can't keep her busy every minute of every day so why do I feel so guilty?

Today my dcs are cleaning out their guinea pigs whilst their dad is making a tree walkway around the garden for them.

We've got no holiday booked (although we may spend the night in a B&B when going to a famous Theme Park).

Unable to take the kids swimming as ds burst his eardrum and is unable to get his ears wet for 6 weeks. So a lot of the time dc's are playing together in the garden between rainfalls.

Only another 4 wks until school starts again and dd will be doing a topic called Far, Far, Away and is expected to take in souvenirs etc. from the holidays. So am feeling guilty myself - although in the past we have sometimes been away 2x in the summer and also in Feb, so shouldn't really feel guilt.

However, we wouldn't be doing our duty as a mum if we we not permanently on a guilt trip Wink

Don't feel guilty! If you entertain kids constantly it gives them unrealistic expectations of life. Sometimes you have boring, quiet or lazy days in between outings, bus rides, visiting etc. its life and its normal.

Today we've tidied out the play room, read library books and jet washed the patio furniture. I may pass out from the excitement! Grin. Don't feel bad, it'll stimulate her imagination not to be entertained all the time.

We too are having a very sedentary holidays. The most exciting thing on the itinerary is three days' camping at the end of next week. most days we are indoors as the weather is generally vile. Yesterday the dogwalk turned into an impromptu bramble picking session, which entertained the DDs enormously. They will have a fun holiday however much or little you manage to do. My parents could never afford to do things with us as kids, we were just thrilled to be off school!
