AIBU?

To not give a monkey's about sports day?

DD's have school sports day next week.
DP can't go due to work.

Let me be honest with you, I can't be ar*$d with it at all.

I'm hoping that it rains because then it'll be just the infants in the school hall and will only take about an hour.

To be honest I can't even be bothered with that.

I'm usually a very supportive mum but at the moment I just want this term to be over so that I can have my children back.
I'm really tired at the moment (booked in for tests next week to see if I'm poorly) and I also have a couselling session which I will pay for whether I attend or not that clashes. (Though under normal circs. I would put DC's first and miss a week).

Is it OK to just not go to their sports day?

Please go easy on me, I hate being put in my place!

You don't have to go; lots of people can't if they have other committments.

I didn't go to DS#1s because he's at secondary and we aren't invited. I didn't got to DD's because I couldn't and she didn't care either way. I probably won't go to DS#2's because I can't and that pisses me off because he would like me to But if your DD's don't care, I wouldn't worry.

I hear what you're saying but I am a SAHM.

The reason I am is because DP and I planned it that way so that DC's would be fully supported and at least one of us would see them grow up.

I guess I feel guilty about just saying, I can't be ars*%d and not going.

They haven't specifically asked for me to be there but I guess that's based on the assumption that I always am there.

DD's aren't at all sporty. (In fact DP and I secretly take the p*ss out of DD2 as she runs like Shelley Duvalle in The Shining. - but that's another thing all together).

So, I'll not go then?
Yes?

Up to you, if your DD doesn't mind then don't worry about it.

By the way, mums who DO go to work also get to see their children grow up

"Can't be arsed" is a perfectly valid viewpoint.

I think to miss one is fine, just don't never go to any of them! My parents never once showed up at a sports day throughout the whole of my schooling......if I'm totally honest it still bothers me a bit now at the ripe old age of 30!

If you're not feeling great and you have another important appointment that's non refundable I wouldn't see anything wrong in not going. Your kids are not going to remember that ONE sports day, you didn't turn up. I honestly can't remember if my mother ever came to a sports day or if parents were even invited.

Sorry you're feeling so crap, I know what that's like - getting out of your own shadow takes too much effort sometimes huh - let alone traipsing into the school to spend half the day watching other peoples kids and 30 seconds watching your own...

However, I think you should go - even if you ask the DC's they will probably say they don't mind if you don't go - but really... most kids like their parents to be there don't they. Wanting you there at school stuff only lasts a few years - try to enjoy it.

Go early, park close, take a friend maybe?? A hip flask if you feel like it But go - smile, look interested, tell them they were wonderful!

Earn brownie points and feel good that you made the effort to go!

I know what you mean about having them back - I love the holidays

ds had his today, i really could not be arsed

but went along for the last 45 minutes, he saw me so knew i was there and i got to see him so happy when he came first in one of them.

the highlight was the mums egg and spoon race, and the dads sack race, i was in stitches

You're right, IABU I'll go.
I don't have to pay any attention at all except to my DD's races.

I didn't mean to be inflammatory with the "get to see them grow up" comment, I mean we had a choice and we wanted one of us there all the time.

Thank you!
