What's your initial reaction to this story?

I don't know if my campacity for compassion has been adversely affected by forums/trolls etc, so please tell me what your initial reaction would be to reading this story on a forum.

Most of this is posted by the husband.

Mother currently in hospital having given birth to 4th child 2 months early.

Father concerned about 3rd child, temp etc. Eventually takes him to hospital, diagnosed with meningitis.

Father's brother dies in a car accident.

It's the 2nd anniversary of his father's death and 7th anniversary of sister's death. Dead brother's wife died 6 months ago.

Later on same day or possibly next day 3rd child with meningitis dies.

This is all posted about immediately, by either father or mother. Also in the middle of this there is a change of heart about new babies name and they ask advice on what to name her.

What is your gut reaction to hearing this?
AIBU to be screaming troll at my computer?

Bloody hell - it's not impossible, if it's real that poor bloke must be in pieces.

However I am the same and tend to think

Unfortunately I am very guilible and I wouldn't like to think that there are people who could lie about stuff like this.

I would think what an awful time they had had.

certainly some families seem to get more than their share of bad luck and heartache. Why say anything at all?

my gut reaction would be the same.......and also to check out the local news/police reports where he lived to see if there had been any car accidents with fatalities..........

I thought bloody hell as well, if it's true I'm not sure posting it on a public forum would be the first thing I'd do, perhaps afterwards trying to come to terms with it all.

I would think troll in my head and stay away from the thread.

If you suspect it's bullshit, step away from the computer. Do NOT shout troll, because if there is even a tiny chance that it is true you will be the world's biggest bitch for doing so.

Sometimes life is really shit for people.

Not quite in the same league but my DH's mother died the month we were getting married and her sister found out she had terminal cancer on the day of the funeral. At that point in time his grandmother had lost 5 of her 7 children. She went on to survive them all...

None of the things mentioned: preemie baby, meningitis, car accident are unusual. sadly.

What is unusual is to post an unfolding story...

Has anyone asked any minor questions of detail about this tale yet?

And have the posters made a huge fuss about being questioned rather than answering?

And have the usual gullible persons offerd lots of ((hugz)) ?

And when that has died down, have some sockpuppets new posters joined in with more ((hugz)) to keep it all going and going and going?

Not said anything, and never would, but very sceptical.

As far as I can see, no-one questioning it, lots of hugs. I know it's bad form to post about a post/forum, but it is on the famous huns forum.

TBH, when a story is so heavily bad like you describe and especially if there are some "holes" in the story, I leave it. TBH I usually leave heavy threads full stop unless I really think I have something to say that will help, which is very rare

What Nancydrew said.
When my DD was ill in hospital I couldn't have got myself together to get on a computer. I find it very odd when people seem to be posting from the bedside of an ill child. Admittedly I can see that if you have a premie and are in for ages you might post, but when a child has a life threatening condition? I don't think so.

One comment on the thread is:

"I am reading this in complete disbelief, how can it been possible for all these things to happen in a space of 48 hours, unreal."

so I think that is a polite way of saying this is a large bucket of cobblers.

that is so blatantly a troll.

where have you seen this story?

Oh, and first post of said couple was 12 days ago. I'm glad other people are thinking bullshit because on said website everyone was very supportive and sympathetic and I was worried I was just being a bitch.

Gigantaur it's on nethuns. It's over a few different threads but usernames Dani P (6) and Scott P (5) will point you in the right direction. If this is inappropriate tell me and I'll report and ask it to be deleted.
