why not just pop it in the open top window of my dining room, next to the front door (with attached mail box) to make your life easier.

This is what happened yesterday afternoon. Arrived home after collecting DC from school to find a small package in my mailbox, and an A4 sized packet between my blinds and window of the dining room! And here is the kicker, it wasnt even for my house, it was for the same number a street away!

AIBU to tell the postman NEVER to do that again? What if it was something breakable? The drop from top of window to sill is around 5 feet? Would I have been responsible for someone elses mail? And lastly, how fucking dare he put it in my window!!!!! I am so cross about this, not to mention I had to take the parcel round to the person who it was actually for in the pissing rain!

sorry, this has turned into a mini rant.

Maybe it wouldn't fit and he thought he was being helpful? Our postman puts large parcels through the catflap which is a great help if I am out!

Yes ours uses the catflap, and also takes the trouble to answer very pleasantly to our very keen adoring toddler!

They could have been important, landed behine a chair or something, and you mightn't have spotted them (well the small parcel anyway) for a couple of days. What a strange thing to do.

Ha! We once had some shoes from the catalogue thrown onto the flat roof underneath our bedroom window when we lived in a flat - I suppose at least they were safe

I wouldn't get too wound up - it sounds like the postman was trying to save you a trip to the sorting office. At the risk of been sexist, men have some odd logic sometimes!

I once had a box of chocolates (£20 from Hotel Chocolat) left under the mat outside the front door. Pizza delivery leaflet person then stood on said hidden box! Not good at all..

no - the small parcel was in the mailbox where it should be.
The LARGE one was NOT for us at all! so apart from that, how was he to know that it wasnt a delicate item that could have been broken?

at least it got to your door.

I have a gate its about as tall as i am, some times its open and sometimes its closed it doesnt lock just has a very obvious normal catch. We had a newspaper person 'post' the newspaper through the gate it landed on the frount path and stayed there whilst it rained and rained and rained. i ended up cleaning newspaper mush off the path once it had all dried on

Ooh, I can beat that. A next delivery man chucked a parcel through my parents' side gate straight into a pool of dog wee (from next door's dog I hasten to add).
Since it had not been raining and the pee was quite clearly yellow and pee-ey, I thought this was quite literally taking the piss.

lanky that made me laugh, obviously the post/delivery people are getting more creative!

I had a delivery person post a parcel over a 6 foot high gate once.

Luckily, Amazon parcels are well packed and it was only a book as anything delicate would have shattered from the drop.

Unluckily, although the gate is next to my garage door, it belongs to a neighbour who we don't really speak to, is always locked from the inside and the covered alley it leads to is used as a makeshift shed by the neighbours so after going round and asking nicely, someone had to clamber over car parts, fishing gear and mini moto bikes to retrieve my book!!

Our postman dropped a box over our 6 foot garen fence. It contained some very delicate electrical lighting equipment which dh had ordered

We also regularly have parcels left outside in the rain, even when they are marked 'signature on delivery'.

one postman threw the carseat i had got for DS2 over the 6ft fence onto the path, I went mad and made a claim to get another seat, the cheque came 2 days before I had him
