AIBU?

to think that the school should have let us take our children early ?

Yesterday was junior sports day and it was postponed until next Monday due to the weather.
Today, it was infants sports day at 1:30pm.

Bearing in mind that it rained all morning yesterday and we'd had grey skies all morning today, plus a forecast of heavy showers, everyone expected it to be cancelled, but no.

Got there at half one, and it started spitting. Children came out at 1:45 and it was a bit heavier and within 5 minutes it was peeing it down and at 1:55 they called a stop to it.

We were told to collect at normal time. Several parents asked if they could take the children now as by the time they got home it would be time to come out again and we were all told no.

So, I have just got in, soaked, and have 40 minutes until I have to go back out.

AIBU to think that, as the school cocked up by not canceling in the first place, that they should have either let us take our children OR let us wait in one of the halls or something unil collection time ??

They should have let you wait somewhere as long as that was applicable and there was such a place that was secure and ticked all the boxes.

As for letting them go early, that's the obvious solution but whats the bet it would count towards their absence quota or something...if so I dont blame them because thats a lot of absences.

What a faff. I'm not sure the school could have done much to be honest but YANBU on the basis that it seemed petty.

I bet it did have something to do with attendance. The head is absolutly obsessed with it.

They should have let those with parents there go early definietly
can't see that they'd have had to write that as non attendance
what a 'mare for you!

It couldn't have been anything to do with attendance, as the children would already have been marked as present for the afternoon session.

At the school where I work, we always let parents take their children home early if school events finish shortly before the end of the school day.

Yours sounds a bit jobsworth to be honest.

Yup the head is a jobsworth tbh, she does this type of thing all the time.

The kids were all crying at the confusion too, it was bloody daft.

MrsMorgan - typical bloody twattery!

What are they going to do for the hour after that, that is going to be worth doing?

But you see - I wouldn't have asked, I would have just said I was taking them with me... end of. They'd done the afternoon registration, so no problems re attendance.

We have Sports Day tomorrow - really looking forward to the ensuing debacle

Daft - if they started it they should have had a back up plan of games indoors, even if class by class rotation, and then let you take them home when done. It isn't as if they had any other plans for the kids .
