I'm working class. I like drugs, but I can't afford them now and I have children so those days are behind me. I don't have a degree, but plenty of other qualifications inc. A levels and an NVQ and a GNVQ. I am going back to college in Sept now that DH has lost his job, to learn a trade, possibly fitness and nutrition. I am not selfish in the least. I love cooking, so no I wouldn't say I am malnourished. I know more about nutrition than dd1's school seem to . I work and have have two very bright, considerate children so I don't think I am a waste of space. Can I put my hand up?

Another definition of the working classes (from Jilly Cooper, bless her) is that the middle classes will save money for something concrete and sensible, such as a depoist on a house, or school fees.

Working classes will save money all year and spend it on a fantastic Christmas.

This is actually true of my family when growing up.

In truth, think will define it as people who (traditionally) had low paid menial jobs, always counting the pennies, no way of saving, being down trodden and exploited historically.
