Availability of gluten-free food in Spain

We've just booked a week in Spain, which will be our first holiday for nearly 3 years, and our first since DD1 (3.5) was diagnosed with coeliac. Last time we went to Majorca and she lived on tortillas, serrano ham, olives and bread. Has anyone tried to be gluten-free in Spain? Do they sell gluten-free products in the supermarkets? We're not going to be off the beaten track so I imagine that there'll be some big supermarkets relatively close by. Should I bank on taking a week's supply of bread/pasta/biscuits etc with us or will I be able to get stuff there?

TIA

I don´t think you should have any trouble. On the whole diets like this are pretty well catered for here, I know for example there is a lot more special food for diabetics on offer than there is in the UK, in your normal average supermarket. I am certain I have seen food for celiacs too, in fact the other day I noticed they even have gluten free beer (not that I guess that will be of much use to you!!)

The supermarket I have in mind is Alcampo and is a big hypermarket chain (I´m in Mallorca).

Hope that helps, enjoy your holiday.

Thanks so much to you both for your help. I thought it would probably be ok, but didn't want to risk turning up without a good supply - could have been a bad start to the holiday! So it's good to know I don't have to fill our suitcases with bread and pasta .

Thanks again.

The Corte Inglés supermarkets have a 'dietetica' section which has health food type things including gluten-free pasta etc.
