My 20-month old has started getting sore red patches round her mouth and chin. Do I need to take her to the gp or just do tedious food elimination tests myself?

Just after Christmas I started giving her Muller Little Stars yogurts (no doubt these will be considered to be Very Bad). Switched to Sainsbury's fromaige frais things (Less Bad) but one of these seems to had triggered some sort of reaction. But to what? Strawberry? Please not milk? What else could it be anyone?

Strawberry, probably, if they are in the yoghurts. But also, keep an eye out after she has had a tomatoey sauce. This can cause face rashes, although IFAIK they are harmless.

The GP may give you some cream, but unless it is weeping or bothering her, it's not likely. Try dropping strawberries and tomatoes first, I reckon.

Well, was hoping it was just chapped skin but does seem to flare up after she's had a yogurt... It's a bugger though isn't it?

If commercial strawberry yoghurts had only strawberry and yoghurt, I would just say drop the strawberries but... there are so many other things added to them that it is difficult to know for sure. i.e. DS had a bad time with Heinz and Sainsburys' tomato products but could tolerate some other brands.

Have you tried Onken yoghurts? they don't come in little pots but are really good. Having said that... since Ds was diagnosed with dairy allergy I have not checked their labels so I'm not quite sure how much better they could be

Best thing to treat them with, available over the counter, is Aveeno lotion.

Lets start again... If the flares only happen when she has yoghurts, but not with milk, cheese, etc. Try a different brand and avoid strawberries for a while.

If the red spots become dry/itchy Aveeno helps by reducing dryness, therefore the itching and the possibility of ending with broken skin..

Proper flares (red angry looking raised rashes that last for days) need to be treated with HC. But it is unlikely and certainly not needed to get it for a short lived reaction.

Thanks all. Am fairly sure it's the strawberries. Have kept her off yogurts for a few weeks and her skin had cleared up but partner gave her an Innocent smoothie thing yesterday with strawberry in it and she had little red dots on her face where the straw must have touched her face.

So, do they grow out of this one, does anyone knwo?
