Allergies and intolerances

Alternative to breast milk in baby with dairy sensitivity

I posted this last night on other topic.

I want to stop bf DD2, 16 mnths. However, she appears to have a dairy intolerance. Every time I give her any cows or goats products she develops a cough, has runny nappies and sometimes throws it up. Blood tests at hospital were negative.

We try to avoid processed food and eat organic when we can so I don't want to give her processed stuff like soya, especially with the bad press it has had lately.

Has anyone any suggestions?

HI,

One of my children is allergic to milk (amongst other things). She started on soy milk (organic) at 12 mo old. Also I give her calcium fortified 100% juice and water to drink. She has grown beautifully (now almost 6).

If you are still breast feeding, another option (I'm sure you may have considered it) would be for you to go dairy free. Its not as hard as you think, though it may seem impossible starting out.

If you need any more info, let me know.

Good luck!

Oops just re-read and see you want to stop B-feeding. Sorry, missed that!

Thanks Bubblesmum.

I have been dairy free since she was 6mths (that's 10mths now). But I have now reached a point where I want to stop breast feeding.

I suppose I will have to see a dietician to advise the right amounts of calcium and vitD she needs.

Thanks for your help.

My dd2 has suffered terribly with exzema since she was 2weeks old.

She is now 23mths old and since 12mths we tried, cows milk, goats milk, soya milk. She tolerated goats milk for a short time but she LOVES rice milk and won't drink anything else. We get the one fortified with calcium.

Hope this helps

I've also heard that rice milk is good. Just wanted to second that and give you a "big well done" as I also went dairy/egg free and breast fed til about 17 months. I understand where you are at! Mind you, I also reached a size 10, the first and only time since I was about .......well, 10 actually
