POO! & Intollerences

We think our son has intollerences to many foods. GOS has just assigned us to their feeding team but as yet we are waiting for a feeding programme. In the meantime we are still trying to get our son to eat different foods. He only ate bread from 9months to 2 years, then he started to eat soya yoghurts, chips, chicken in batter and fish in batter. He is now 3 1/4 and 3 days ago we managed to get him to eat baked beans. Afterwards he did 3 poos within 1/2 of eating them. He had some more last night and again the same thing happened. He had some more tonight and within an hour he has done 4 poos each one becoming less solid again. Through past experience i would say that the beans are too high in fibre for him. What would you say.....

Please only serious responces please.....

HV are crap round here and always say don't worry all my sons problems are normal. AARRGGHH!!

I would definately avoid beans. It might be a good idea to avoid and foods that are known to cause loose stools (can;t spell dihorrea?) ie, oranges, certain veg. etc.

If it is the only change in his diet, then I would worry that either it is too high in fibre or he is reacting to something in it. If it was 1/2 hour after he ate them, that's very quick to work its way through his system, so could it be a reaction of some kind?

My ds is similar - food intolerences that we hadn't known about means he is a bad eater. Though he gets constipated. Our HV takes it seriously but the gps don't. its a barrel of laughs isn't it.

HTH I'm not very good at this stuff, but I'm learning.

Sorry i posted this and then had to go off and forgot to log on again til today.

Yes my thoughts are the same too. AVOID

All my friends kids that are healthy do not understand and say thats normal. They really do not understand. I find some mums say things are normal when they are not....

I always remember our daughter being terrible at times (poos!). I remember going to a special party and taking loads of nappies with us. she went through the lot and my partner even had to go home for more! very embarrassing. Now at five she has so many food allergies it all makes sense! yeah certainly be aware, and trust your own instincts. Keep a list of the foods he eats and any symtoms. Does he have any other allergies eg eczema/asthma.

My ds is now just over two and for the past 6 months or so has been very difficult to feed he only eats fish fingers and chips and maybe pasta every day ! and not adequate amounts, his poo is always runny. people have said oh hes going through a phase but i think he needs to see a doctor although my dr is a bit dismissive he also has eczema

Cripes, this sounds like my ds and he has already been diagnosed with dairy, wheat and nut allergies. He poos about six times a day, certainly more if had beans. I phoned the allergy clinic today and am getting him retested but have to wait until May. Try and get your gp to refer your ds to a local allergy clinic???? What is GOS?

Hi there

This is my first time posting on mumsnet. My dd is 16 months old and has been taking neocate hypoallergenic formula since she was 5 months due to multiple protein intolerances. Her symptoms were lots of v runny nappies, refusal of bottles, ecezma and low weight gain. She's currently on a wheat, soya, dairy, fish, and egg free diet - mealtimes are such fun! Anyway my real reason for writing is to say trust your instincts. I don't care what GP's say - lots of runny nappies a day is not normal. I spent most of my maternity leave in my GP's surgery (prior to becoming a mum I never darkened the doctors door!) trying to convince here there was something amiss. Eventually I persuaded her to refer us to our local allergy clinic and although tests show dd doesn't have true allergies she showed the classic symptoms for multiple intolerances. So hang in there - and hopefully you'll get to the bottom (no pun intended) soon. x

Welcome to mn plus30. I have been told my ds has an egg intolerance but as with that and eczema also been told he'll grow out of it ! but hasn't so will make a nuisance of myself and get him tested. its a shame mothers have to really bang on the door to make themselves heard especially with some health professions my experience unfortunately has been quite dismissive. although i understand it is not life threatening as such it is taking from his quality of life as mealtimes and food and sore bums etc are very distressing for my ds and me in our everyday life
