Allergies and intolerances

Calcium help! (Issues with milk/cheese/yogurt.)

I don't think this is an allergy, but I'm stuck with where exactly to place this conversation!

I have a 3 and a half year old. For months now I've found that if milk, cheese, yogurt pass his lips he vomits. It got to a point where I'd try and chop cheese into teeny weeny pices and add it to rice etc to disguise it, but found he still puked everywhere.

He has been off milk for ages, though sometimes he does try but half way through a cup he will then puke Tried milkshakes, smmothies to get some calcium into him but still the puke effect.

For a short time, he was ok with frozen frubes, well it was a miss and hit thing, sometimes ok, sometimes not.

I have a list of other calcium foods, but for those who have an intolerance or have children with to milk, what experiences have you had? Could it be possible he and milk just don't get on? He wont eat custard, sauces that have milk in.. and I'm not telling him that they have milk in. Just tried Angel Delight.. he had 6 mouthfuls, said he liked it, but then puked

Beginning to pull my hair out... if only I could track my HV down!

I would imagine he has some sensitivity or allergy to dairy. My DD2 (14mths) throws if she has had dairy, awaiting results of blood tests. My DS (5yrs) also did but seems to have outgrown throwing and just goes red in the face and gets a cough. I would take him to the GP if you can't track down your HV.

They can get calcium and vit D through other food sources such as green veg and salmon. There is something about this on previous threads.

If he really does have a dairy allergy/sensitivity then the doctors can prescribe other non milk formula to compensate - or calcium supplements. It might be worth a trip to the GP as IME the HV only sends you to the GP for this sort of thing anyway

Broccoli, particularly the stems, have lots of calcium in it, you can find soya based cheese, milk and spread but check they have been enriched with calcium.

DS has calcium enriched rice milk and he is fine, we have learned to live without dairy, so we don't use it/miss it much anymore.
