Symptoms of milk protein allergy in 2 year old?

Hello everyone,
My 2 year old has been unable to sleep at night for the last 2 weeks due to severe "itching" - it's driving us all up the wall. She has atopic eczema but this is under control with steroids at present so I don't think it's the cause of the itching. The paediatrician last week thought it was likely to be milk protein allergy (and the cause of the atopic eczema too). The itching is small red bumps, I'm wondering whether they may be hives rather than eczema? My question is to all those with toddlers who have been diagnosed with milk protein allergy - what were the symptoms your little one experienced, particularly skin ones and what did you do about the moment when you have to say to them that there is no milk for bedtime tonight, I tried almond milk last night and she was very anti. Maybe better just to say no milk at all, she won't be happy, more stress, more itching...
Thank you - feeling desperate and exhausted!

Hello I can't really offer any advice regarding a 2 year old. My daughter was diagnosed milk protein intolerant at around 3 months, her symptoms were just irritability all the time, and the allergy caused her to have acid reflux which caused her a lot of pain, she also has eczema but so do I so may just be from genetics, however she doesn't seem to itch from it. So like you say it may be hives in your little one.
Luckily for us by 18 months she appears to have grown out of it and is now fully on cows milk. Have you tried soya milk?
Sorry I can't offer more advice.

my son was diagnosed quite early on when we started introducing dairy. He tried yogurt and the second time vomited. I tried again a few weeks later and he vomited again. he was showing signs for other allergens and I started documenting things before I went to the GP.

Every child is different in regards to the symptoms. I would say to be strong. There are lots of different milks out there and foods that can give her the calcium she needs. She will fight it, but if you know this is the best course for her, then you have to do it. she will adjust. it just may take time and you may have to become more creative.

You will be surprised how many foods have dairy protein in them. Make sure you read all your labels. We do a lot of home cooking. She may like to so this with you and that will get her interested in different milks/foods. good luck. it does get easier.

Hi,

My 2yo hasn't been diagnosed with a milk allergy but he has had rough skin all over his torso and rough red patches on his cheeks.

I tried cutting out cows milk replacing it with rice milk on his cereal and his skin has cleared up totally.
