Hello,

I am taking my 3 y/o to spain in a few weeks. We will be self catering and are pretty prepared but I wondered if anyone had done this and has any tips / advice they could share? Particularly on good alternative dairy products and also, what I should be looking out for on labels? We have been told there is a soya range of spreads and yoghurts and I am also taking an allergy card in spanish, if we eat out. But any extra advice welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. We just got back from spain and my son is allergic to dairy, nuts, and sesame. This was our 2nd time. The first time he was not allowed eggs also. We had the cards in Spanish and found that there was plenty of soya goods at the major shops. We always showed the cards at restaurants w good support. When looking at labels leche and lacteos may help but also could show the card and the product label and ask someone for help. When all else failed, we would order our son patatas which are made with oil. have a good time!

We have been to Spain many times with DS who is allergic to milk eggs, nuts and sesame. The labelling is as detailed as it is here, there are loads of soya alternatives in the supermarkets and when eating out everyone was very clued up and helpful. DS got some amazing food as an alternative to the usual chicken nuggets and chips fare I.e. a plate covered in lovely jamon and a lovely chargrilled bit of chicken.
