What's in beetroot and onions to give me diarrhea?

Just wondering, really and sorry in advance if TMI Blush

Lately within an hour of eating beetroot I have the most awful diarrhea, even if it's just a small portion (like one or two baby beets). Onions I can't deal with either, but that's been going on for a long time.

Is there anything particularly in both beets and onions that might be causing this? It's annoying because I love both.

Not much help because I dont know the answer but my Mother has the same problem especially with the allium family; onions, garlic, leeks, spring onion,chives...fresh, dried, powdered or otherwise preserved ...even when its just the poaching liquid that had some in and is then discarded. I just posted so you know you are not alone..and perhaps to bump this to someone in the know.

Thankyou dunno

I read somewhere that onions and beets are very high in indigestible fructans so it may be that. Such a pain!
