Adult bread allergy/intolerance?

Over the last few months I've been feeling really sick and uncomfortably bloated after eating certain types of bread products.
It's gotten worse lately and I'm not sure if I should see a doctor.
I first noticed it after eating Pizza Hut pizza as it was more than just feeling full. I usually eat a bread called Oatilicious by kingsmill which doesn't bother my stomach but then I had some white fresh baked bread from the supermarket which made me feel ill and also bagels that I had a couple of days ago.
Saturday we had pizza for tea and all day Sunday I felt sick (but wasn't sick) and really uncomfortably bloated, I was tearful and felt really low and tired. Also I'm burping allot and have very smelly wind! Blush
This is the worst it's been which is why I'm asking for advice.
I've never knowingly had food allergies and have looked up IBS, Coeliac and Wheat allergies but are these things someone gets at the age of 40?
I am going to stay off bread this week to see if that helps but does anyone have any other suggestions or know what this might be?

You can get it at any age. My DH was diagnosed earlier this year with wheat and yeast allergies and an intolerance to eggs. He previously had no issues until around 1 year before.

I've always had a bit of an intolerance to wheat. Never been tested but now I'm not eating it because we have to buy wheat free everything - when I do eat some, by christ do I know it. I bloat massively and have lots of gas with some pain too.

Yes I'd head to the GP and see what they want to test you for.

more people are diagnosed with coeliac disease over the age of 60 than as children. 40s is a common age for diagnosis. if you really think you might have this please do not cut lots of foods out of your diet, because to be tested you need to have enough antibodies to gluten in your blood, you need to be eating gluten everyday. keep a proper food/symptom diary and ask your gp about it. also think back to your family history - anyone with gut cancers? osteoporosis? anaemia? all linked to coeliac disease.

the reason I ask about those family histories is because DD is the first officially diagnosed coeliac in the family (diagnosed age 5, now 14) but DHs mum has suffered for ages and been told for 40 years she had IBS, and his granddad always had a dodgy tummy (in the days when people did not talk about such things) and died of bowel cancer - we now believe him to have been an undiagnosed coeliac. MIL has also gone GF and been healthier than in the last 40 years .

You may feel you just want to cut out bread etc and see if it makes a difference, and self diagnose - but getting a proper diagnosis has long term benefits - prescribed gf food and regular check ups/bone scans etc to monitor for associated health issues.
