Feel low about DS allergies

We received a letter from the hospital this week saying almost the opposite from what they had told us at the clinic in June. They said at the clinic they would do food challenges in September (for egg and milk), would take another blood test, then would get in touch with a date, and said there could be no reason not to do a challenge. Also reminded us to keep DS away from nuts till he is 7. (DS is 3 - 4 next month).

Anyway the letter says his blood antibodies are still too high to do a food challenge but that he has no antibodie to peanuts so it is safe for us to give them to him.

Just feel low about it - still no nearer to knowing about DS allergies and what could happen if he were to accidentally eat egg/milk. Feels that each time we go to the clinic we see someone else who tells us something different.

Does anyone else experience this?

No real experience of your situation. But we too feeling a bit low about allergies (dd nearly 3, has milk/egg too) - just had tests done 9 months after last, and no improvement at all. No tests now for another year.

We'd hoped things might have improved, as the skin tests 9 months ago seemed to suggest that things were getting better.

So, sorry nothing that constructive to say, but you are not alone with this kind of thing. On the positive side, I think the consultant said to us that 50% of children lose their allergy by 3, and then by age 5 90% have, so you have a good chance that within a year, he might be clear.

hello adadonmumsnet, thanks for your post - yes it is trying isnt it. Hopefully DS will outgrow the egg and milk allergies. We'll see.

On a brighter note DS ate cake yesterday for the first time for nearly a year after eating a bit of royal icing sugar on a cake last october - he has refused to eat anything cake like for so long cos of getting so sick after the icing sugar (contains egg white).

dd doesn't like cake either, seeing as she only ever gets cake that doesn't contain eggs, butter, chocolate or any of the good stuff that makes them tasty!

She doesn't know what she is missing so doesn't mind at least...

getting fed up too ds allergic to egg fish and unknown allergies, he's coming up to two at christmas and he's started getting upset at what other people are eating and last bank holiday weekend ended up at a&e cos he stole off my plate
