Peanut Allergy - Chinese and Indian food?

My little 3 year old's got a huge appetite, a bold spirit and a peanut allergy. I want to take him out to eat chinese and indian food, but I'm scared there'll be traces of peanuts. What do you think?

(when i can't think of anything else to stress about at night, i lie awake and worry that he won't be able to go travelling in Asia when he's 18 and an irresponsible, boozy, hopeless lad.. )

Indian food is a high risk activity for the peanut allergic.
Lots of resturants buy almond flavored powered peanut flour as this is cheaper than almond powder.
Also tree nuts are highly cross contaminated with peanut at packing source.

AS for chinese, they do use whole peanuts for some dishes.
Woks are not cleaned out to remove traces of nuts.

Personaly its not a risk we are happy to take with out peanut/bean allergic child.

How about fish and chips instead? or pizza?

Mammina, i could have wrote what you said. I also lie in bed worrying about him travelling abroad in his gap year (he's 10 at the moment!)

It's great news though (re the other link) Maybe we won't have to spend the rest of our lives stressing!

Take care

My dh is Pakistani and we took the kids to Pakistan in march. dd has severe peanut allergy. The flights were a worry. Once in Pakistan we were with the family but had to be vigilant. The food cooked wouldn't have nuts in but peanuts were a popular snack. We avoided visiting dh's sister one evening when he heard the kids had been eating peanuts.
Dh has a couple of Indian restaurants. They don't use peanuts but dh is highly aware. Even then I wouldn't trust all his staff. Its a minefield!!!!
