My DD1 gets this (like nettle rash) when she's eaten something she's allergic to (egg white & peanuts) or her skin has been in too much contact with dusty ponies.

A dose of Piriton gets rid of it very quickly but it goes away on it's own after a few hours (especially if she's been sick).

I have been told it can get worse if your feeling under the wether as your immune system is busy fighting other things.
What are you allergic to?

my ds suffers from it on a daily basis and has done since about June. At first it was awful - big wealds all over his body - we couldnt work out what triggered it. We tried piriton - but didnt seem to do much good. We put him on urtica tablets from the health food shop which seemed to help a little bit but the routine of every 2 hours was hard to keep up during school time. He has now been prescribed Cetirizine but we dont give it him daily as it seems to happen regardless of medication.

We think grass is a trigger as well as contact to the skin. All he has to do is scratch his face and he has a huge weald where he has scratched - it tends to go down after 5 mins or so - but the looks he gets in the meantime are a bit bizzare - any advice much appreciated pls.

DS has this - grass is a trigger, especially fresh cut grass - so he wears gloves when he helps DH in the garden - it happens when he rubs his face after touching the grass a lot. Otherwise when he touches milk or egg. It goes down in a few hours and deosnt seem to bother him - thankfully.

I get a cool flannel and press it onto the urticaria and try to rub away the grass/irritant - dont know if it does help but seems to help cool it down a little.

DD has this - cetirizine has made a massive difference to her. We can tell the days that we forget to give her a daily dose. My GP said that the antihistamine works better to prevent a reaction when given daily, so we're doing that while we wait for her paeds review.
Its been an absolute godsend, stopped her looking like we'd whipped her (huge weals when she scratched and no apparent trigger)

p.s called dermographism if just gently scratching the skin produces a reaction
