Has anyone's DC with multiple allergies suddenly started reacted to a bunch of other stuff?

Because I'm a bit concerned that this might be happening with DS1. He's 6yo and we have known about his major food allergies for some time (egg, peanuts, sesame, chick peas, lentils). Last year he also developed hay fever. Other than that his allergies seemed to be stable and we could manage them without too many problems.

Now, in the space of 10 days he has had three reactions to food he was previously absolutely fine with - two to cucumber (one mild, one more severe with throat swelling where we had to call the paramedics) and one to peas (mild). We have got a hospital appt with his paed (at Addenbrooke's) on Friday but I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? It's making me concerned about sending him off to school/childminder where he might react to something we thought he was fine with...

peas fit in with the lentil and other legume allergy, as in same family.
having hayfever and tree pollen allergies can lead to oral allergy syndrome.

we have had similar problems, good luck with yr appointment, write list of questions you want to ask them.

Oh crap. Peas and cucumber were among the few veg he would willingly eat! If he starts reacting to carrot and sweetcorn that's him and veg done!

He won't eat any fruit these days except (grudgingly) satsuma, perhaps that's connected?

Oh no don't think I can face any more allergies :( DS is also 6 and allergic to milk, wheat, eggs & nuts but never shown any signs of airborne allergies until the past couple of months. He seems to be showing signs of hayfever and possibly pet allergies now. This is not good as our wonderful childminder has a dog. Really don't know what we'll do if he starts reacting to the dog as there are hardly any childminders that service his school and I would hate to change as she's so amazing! And his arms came out in horrific hives on Monday night for no obvious reason so I'm really feeling quite down with it all at the moment. I HATE allergies!!!!!

Yeah, it is. Dd has a list of allergies as long as your arm. New peadiatrician thinks oral allergy syndrome is cause for some of them. We have the peanut allergy also and pollen/dustmite . Now dd has been a bit strange last few days with tummy troubles and wondering about the cause- she's been happily eating apples? I hope it is not that. So bad and crampy last night had her on calpol and she was rolling in pain. Usually doesn't eat fruit as allergic to most of them and here we go again. Strawberries possibly caused quite a reaction in July to which we stayed up half the night with her and they used to be fine. I don't know. No wonder she usually eats hardly any fruit!

Right well we have just got back from Addenbrooke's and it is oral allergy syndrome. He is not actually allergic to peas/cucumber so I suppose that's something but they may cause him discomfort to eat, same with soft fruits.

Still, he has grown 11cm in the year since our last visit so must be doing ok on his diet of mostly cheese sandwiches!!

Did they give you any other advice MegBusset? It's a nightmare isn't it. Glad he is not actually allergic to peas/cucumber. Dds skin prick test to cucumber showed slight allergy but she refuses to eat it anyway as she gets unbearable itching inside her ears. She is ok with peas though. We are waiting on some blood tests atm. Nurse was not there for our allergy app so they could not do the skin pricks after we had bought all the fruits typical

Slightly silly question because he's only 6 - has he been under any stress recently?
I was at college with a girl who had several anaphylactic-level allergies, and after half a year of doing college, she started to react to other stuff that she'd never reacted to, all of it anaphylactically.

Seems that the stress of college work was causing her system to go into overdrive - she had to leave the course, sadly.

Paed said to try reintroducing the food slowly (one thing at a time) but obviously stop (and give antihistamine) if it causes him discomfort. It may improve in the winter when there's no pollen around.

Thumbwitch he's just started back at school but that doesn;t seem to be concerning him at all. Thankfully it's not anaphylaxis nor likely to lead to a severe reaction. Just a bit off-putting for him, and makes it harder to get his 5-a-day!
