Ezcema and washing hair

With the heat of late my DDs skin has become very dry again. Today she started scraching again. I have therefore gone back to putting oilatum in her bath and using extra applications of Aveeno. I used epaderm on her skin to wash her. The trouble is she needs a good hairwash nearly every other day. Her hair gets very greasy and matted even though it is relitively short. What do people use or should I just stop washing it. I cant stand it unwashed but will if it is going to help her skin.

Thanks

We use Eucerin shampoo (you can get it from Boots), DS is so sensitive that even Aveeno is not ideal for him but he seems to be fine with Eucerin products.

I know what you mean with the hair, i couldnt wash my son hair with any shampoo until he was two, and then i discovered he had curls all over the back of his head!
We had to use aqueus cream all over as shampoo and soap.
the reaction from baby shampoo was horrible!!

It might be worth popping into your local health shop and getting a shampoo with no rubbish in it. The assistants will help you and answer any questions, they're usually very knowledgable in shops like that. DH and I now use all Ds' stuff and there's no way we'd go back to high street gunk.

Hi Beabea, we are having terrible head probs too. Used to use Aloe Vera shampoo from health food shop but have changed to a T-gel type one on prescription. Tilly's scalp is still really itchy tho and she gets Epaderm in it scratching at night so it's always greasy like you say. On the plus side her pigtails stay in really well!
Might try Eucerin then - derm nurse said any baby shampoo would be fine but I am sceptical.

Don't use Johnsons, that stuff really is crap for skin. You might have found the Aloe Vera effects your daughter in the wrong way, it does with my ds.

The aloe was great for months but then all of a sudden her scalp went all dry again. Might try it again though for a week or so.

ds has similar probs and I found one of Boot's speciality ones is fine for him. It's called something like 'scalp moisturising shampoo for eczema..'. Sorry not sure of title and can't find it on website but it's ususally in the baby shampoo section

Have you tried Polytar - you can get it on prescription. Smells foul but works.

we sometimes use the T-gel ones and they do seem to work (certainly seems to make the scalp less dry)

If it is causing her a major problem, I would go and talk to the GP. Dh has had to use some sort of betnovate ointment especially for the scalp (not sure they prescribe this for children) but I think there are other ointments specially designed for the scalp.

We suspend hair washing if the scalp is really sore.

We wash with diprobase, you have to have lots of water and a strong wrist to get it to foam up and rinse out.

DD had very itchy flaky scalp, we use Wuleda baby shampoo from the health shop. About €8 but it lasts forever.
