Hi everyone.

This is my first post - hope you are all well.

I am worrying myself silly over the use of beconase nasal spray earlier on in my pregnancy. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and used the spray twice daily for 4 weeks from approximately 12 weeks onwards. The spray was prescribed to me because of post nasal drip/chronic cough issues.

To cut a long story short, whilst I was talking to my GP I didn't mention the fact that I was pregnant (but I had seen her previously to discuss my pregnancy)...in leaving the appointment, when I went to the pharmacy to collect the prescription I asked the pharmacist if I was ok taking this in pregnancy, he said yes.

On returning to the doctors as my symptoms hadn't improved, a different doctor mentioned prescribing nasule drops which are more potent. On querying this i was told that they belong to the same family as the beconase spray. I then raised a concern about the risks in pregnancy, to which I was told that there are risks with taking such medication. He didnt elaborate any further and I left without the prescription.

After leaving the doctors, I started researching beconase online and am worrying myself sick about everything I'm reading :( there does however seem to be so much conflicting information...and I have read posts from women who have taken beconase.

I was hoping to receive some reassurance from other women who have taken this in pregnancy and delivered healthy babies :)

I didn't sleep a wink last night and am terrified for my 20 week scan.

Thanks for reading!

I took Beconase nasal spray throughout my two pregnancies and delivered healthy babies - dr and pharmacist told me it was safe and from what I gather, although I haven't been on Dr Google :) , the steroid in the spray is not absorbed that much. I am pretty positive you will be fine!!!

Thank you so much for your post...that is really reassuring!!

I know....I need to stop googling things :-/ my hubbie has banned me from it in the past when I've tried to diagnose myself, lol!

I honestly would not worry about taking Beconase in the first trimester. If you are worried contact your local Drug Information service at your local hospital. The NHS patient Info line is 0845 46 47 or phone Cardiff DI unit 029 2074 2979. or Northwick Park, london 020 8869 2761

Tell them you are a member of the public and need some help. They will sort you out. But dont worry about this at all its a small dose of topical steroid. Some mums have to take large doses of steroids internally and its still not a big problem.
Just put your feet up and ...relax
