Allergies and intolerances

Allergic to shampoo/conditioner?

I have many, varied and downright ODD allergies. (Allergic to tannins, anyone?!)

I have recently dyed my hair, and therefore changed to a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair.

I have gone through 1/2 a bottle of the shampoo, and have just started on my second bottle of conditioner (I have waist length hair).

OMG the rash! It was like nothing in this world. I'd run out of Piriton tablets, but it took TWO cetirizine to calm it down.

It was so bad I even took photos!

I used radix bath salts, which I have been using for YEARS. I used a body wash that I have been using without incident for 5-6 years. I used the same shaving gel I have used for 10+ years. Same razor.

The ONLY 'newish' thing was the shampoo/ conditioner.

Should I do a skin test to see if it is one of them?

Just want to know WHICH ingredient it is so that I can avoid it!

Shampoo is John Frieda, the red one.

Any help?!

The usual culprits in shampoos are the para bans and sulphate a although its possible its a plant extract or animal product u reacted to.

Best bet go online or to your local
Heath store and buy a chemical free shampoo.

you have sensitised your skin, which is why your normal products are now causing problems.

change to a non perfummed and coloured shampoo and conditioner. dont wash hair while standing in shower , try washing hair seperately, to stop skin exposure to shampoo etc.

you could be allergic to the hair dye, btw.
see the doc for advice and get the combo of antihistamine and skin treatments rolling to control your symptoms.

be aware this may take some months for your skin to calm down and not react, so limit the exposure of irritants to your skin.

good luck.

I wash my hair with the shower head thingy (no shower).

I am mildly allergic to the hair dye, but it was done 7 weeks ago. I usually take a Piriton when I due my hair - I have grey hairs, I'm only 31, there's no way I'm NOT dyeing my hair!!

My hair is waist length. How do I wash my hair without it contacting my skin? I sit inside the bathtub and use the shower head thing when I sit down.

I can't lean over the bath because a) my hair is ridiculously long, and b) I have arthritis and it would be agonising to lean over the bath.

Is there anything else I can do?

I think maybe I'll just go back to my old shampoo. Still a John Frieda but a different one, the brunette one, which I've been ok with for years.
