I'm pretty sure DD3 (8 months) is allergic to cows milk and egg, although we're waiting for a hospital appointment to confirm this. DD1 is allergic to peanuts and is supposed to avoid all nuts.

Up until now, eggs and cheese have featured heavily in our lunches, and I'm struggling for ideas now we can't have them, especially as the obvious alternatives (eg. ham, houmous) are often quite high in salt for a baby. We're doing baby-led weaning so looking for things that suit the whole family. Any ideas gratefully accepted Smile

you can make your own hummus - blend cooked chickpeas, garlic oil, and pinch of paprika.

you can try rice milk and oats to make porridge, add pinch of cinnamon

almonds and coconuts are seeds, not nuts and should be ok to eat for your girl, but you'll decide of course

I use a very good baby food book that is based on recipes and ideas that can be used for babies/children with dairy and gluten allergies.

the general advice is not based on BLW, but you should read this for the recipes which are family friendly and other advice on allergies etc.

it's called "What should I feed my baby" by Suzannah Olivier

Bird's custard is milk and egg free, the tin not the packet. Make it up with soya milk or EBM and add raisins, berries or grated apple.

Thanks for the replies so far, and sorry to take so long to come back to this thread!

amazingmumof6 Maybe I will make a batch of houmous and try freezing small portions - would it freeze OK do you think? I never knew that about almonds being a seed, but DD1's supposed to avoid nuts due to the risk of factory cross-contamination with peanuts, which I guess is still a risk with almonds. We do give her coconut milk though (inconsistent perhaps) - makes a lovely rice pudding!

I found the book you recommended on Amazon but it doesn't mention allergies or dairy-free diet in the description - is there much on that?

InMySpareTime Falafel's a good idea I hadn't thought of - do you know of a brand with low salt content or a good recipe for making it? Again I'm sure it would freeze well and I do actually love falafel myself but rarely have it.

Hooray for Bird's custard - takes me back to my own childhood Smile
