Not tolerating Nutramigen?

EMS23 · 24/01/2013 07:20

DD2 18wo has been on Nutramigen for 3 weeks for suspected CMPI.
DD1 had Nutramigen and it was an instant cure for her so the GP was happy to prescribe for DD2.

So with DD2 it's fixed some issues:

Stopped fussing on the bottle
No more screaming and arching back.
No more projectile vomiting every feed.
Gaining weight again.
Clearing cradle cap.

Sorry, posted too soon.

But other problems have started which I'm really concerned about.

Her sleep is awful. She was doing 5 hour stretches but is now waking 1-2hrly.
She is pooing a lot - hourly and it is very mucousy.
She has awful nappy rash with broken bloody skin (although I think that's an effect of the frequent poo).
She is constantly rubbing and batting her face.

I've searched on past threads and seen that some CMPI/A babies can't tolerate Nutramigen and Neocate would be better.
I'm going to the GP this morning to ask but am worried I'm either missing something or I'm barking up the wrong tree here.

Anyone got any advice/ experience of a baby reacting badly to Nutramigen?

My dd had horrid, green runny poos when she first started on nutramigen. Gp said that she was just clearing out the build up from before. It cleared eventually but was very unpleasant.
Dd had been quite sleepy before and then more wakeful when she started on nutramigen. Hv thought this might be because she hadn't enough energy previously and had been in pain. On the new milk she was getting what she needed so wasn't so sleepy. She also seemed more hungry but this was because her tummy wasn't sore so she could take the milk she needed.
Hope your lo improves soon.

It can take up to 6 weeks for the baby's system to adjust to Nutramigen so it might be worth sticking with it for now. Hopefully things will start to improve soon.

nutramigen can cause frequent green runny poo it says on the can my LG has been lucky and is ok on it but dietician told us that some baby's who have cma can't handle it and can still react to itit as it still has the proteins but is broken down so tiny so they can digest it better xxx

My DS came out in hives with Nutramigen, it still contains CMP. He has to have Neocate. I think Nutramigen AA also doesn't contain any CMP, and there are others.

Thx for the replies. Well the doctor prescribed Neocate and has referred her to the dietician. She's had one bottle so far so we'll see how she gets on until the referral comes through.

When it does, should I be asking for allergy testing? Skin, blood? DD1 grew out of her CMPI by 1yo so we never saw any specialists.
