Foods containing whey/skimmed milk powder for 1st phase of CMP reintroduction protocol

Hi everyone. I am trying to start a CMP reintroduction with my little boy (20 months) but am struggling as he refuses to eat the things I offer him as part of the protocol. The 1st stage is skimmed milk powder or whey powder and I have offered him a custard cream biscuit and a jam ring biscuit (he loves jammy dodgers so I thought it would be a definite yes!). He just shakes his head and says no and throws it away if I give it to him. Can anyone suggest any other items I could try? I was going to get bread tomorrow as I know some breads have skimmed milk powder and I also reckoned crisps might be a safe bet but have no idea which ones contain whey or skimmed milk powder. All suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

What about some homemade fruit scones?

Hmm.. Sounds tasty but am afraid I wont be giving Mary Berry a run for her money Blush. Currently 39 weeks pregnant so was hoping for an off the shelf solution! The problem is we've avoided these foods until now so he is refusing them because they are unfamiliar (I imagine). He is a total crisp fiend (as we discovered over Christmas when we were constantly steering him away from bowls of them at parties) so thought that would be an option but can only find ones containing milk from lactose (which I assume is a different thing?) &/or milk powder (which am worried is skipping a step?).

How about getting a tub of dried skimmed milk powder, and just adding a little into something he likes - in porridge, scrambled eggs. Anything wettish would work

Is there any urgency to do it now? If your due a baby any day now could it not wait until after when u have a bit mIre time to look into things and plan? If he does have a reaction u will have two children keeping u up at night.

I attempted an introduction just under a year ago. Dietician was understanding after when I said she didn't react well and I' was going to wait til she was more verbal and could tell me her tummy hurt. Would yours support a similar decision? :)

There's no real rush - TBH is probably me pushing it! DS had some cheese and other dairy items over the Christmas carnage with no reaction and is overdue a 2nd attempt at reintroduction. His symptoms are hives mainly (which go down quickly with Piritin), so isn't the sort of stuff that keeps him up at night. At the moment am just writing out a detailed planner so nursery can help out too as am aware that if I wait till baby arrives I will have no time to concentrate on it! Once I get past the 1st stage is quite straightforward.. I just hadn't expected him to be so fussy about his biscuits!

I found that to tbh. Dd2 was so unfamiliar with alot of things that even being presented with suitable alternatives it was a long time til she would try them. Even now she will peel off pastry or stare at a biscuit for a while. cake on the other hand....

Just keep trying I guess. The suggestion above of stirring milk powder into things was a good one. Although not sure that qualifies as first stage but it's certainly an easy way and a good idea for a bit further on.

Hope it all goes on for you and congrats with the baby!! :)

Yes I think skimmed milk powder in his cereal may be the way to go. Am just annoyed as I know I remember rejecting crisps because they had whey in them when I was buying for a family BBQ in case DS tucked in when I wasn't looking and I can't for the life of me remember what they were!

Thanks - is your DD2 able to tolerate dairy now?

I don't know. She's fine with the odd little thing like a corner of toast or if she swipes a bit of somethin while no ones looking but after a failed intro last time I'm not really bothered about trying again. she's so happy as she is and I'm so used to cooking dairy free that it's no bother just to
Keep going. Especially as I'm now trying it on dd1 to help with her eczema. Both r doing just fine and it worries me more trying to
Re introduce than it does just to
Leave it if that makes sense.

Rational
Part of brain tells me she's two now chances r she's outgrown it and all will be fine.

The other part just remembers the tears and the tummy aches and feels it would most likely be for everyone else's benefit but hers.

Appointment came through for two months time do gotta make mind up I guess :)

I think I would be the same if DS was like your DD. His first taste of milk (in porridge) he scoffed quite happily. Once we had filled him with anti-H and the hives went down he seemed to suffer no other ill effects - not even a runny nappy. Last time I stopped the graded exposure after a particularly bad bout of hives which really did upset him and then left it over 6 months (rather than their recommended 2/3) to try again.

Just been out and bought BBQ beef hula hoops, frazzles and skips so will see how he goes! Ended up just trawling through Tesco online..

:) that's a far better plan than traipsing round shops!!
My dd was not allergic just intolerant so I'm happy in knowledge that she's going to come to no harm due to a slip up just not in any hurry to make it a part of her day to day diet.

Hope your ds enjoys his crisps :) I love BBQ hula hoops!! :o

I know! I am secretly quite chuffed he didn't eat the custard creams as have been demolishing them all morning! BBQ beef hula hoops tomorrow if he turns his nose up at them too - bonus Blush
