Sunflower seed allergy

I think 2.10 y.o. DS is allergic to sunflower seeds as they bring his face up in a rash just as other allergens do. (He has diagnosed allergies to hazelnuts, peanuts, kiwi & coconut and suspected allergies to egg, cucumber, melon and banana.)

Presumably if he's allergic to the seeds, he'd be allergic to sunflower oil and margarine made with sunflower oil? We've been avoiding the seeds for some time but it only just occurred to me that the oil & marg we use could be a problem.

Not necessarily, refining the oil takes out the proteins that cause the allergy, the same with peanut oil.

Ah, that would be fantastic. :) I've just this moment realised that the oil is in cashew butter which is DS's favourite form of protein (and often the only sort he'll eat). I'll ask for him to be tested for it at the next lot of skin prick tests.

FWIW ds has complained about sunflower seeds making his mouth funny, but never had a reaction to the oil. He has treenut and seed allergies.
